Ever wished that your official launcher was more like MultiMc? Want separate saves and mods for each profile? Well now you can! Just follow these simple steps.
Text Tutorials
Step 1: Creating the profile
Open up the official launcher and click "new profile". You can also click "edit profile" to edit an existing profile.
Step 2: Selecting version and name
Rename the profile to whatever you want it to be and select the version you want.
P.S. If you want to install mods, you're most likely going to need Forge. Step 3 teaches you how to install forge.
Step 3: Installing Forge(Optional)
Go to http://files.minecraftforge.net and download the version of Forge you need. If you're using 1.6 and above, follow these steps. For 1.6 and above
Install the installer of the needed version. You should download the recommended version and not the latest version. Click on it and select the location of your .minecraft or minecraft folder and click install client.
For 1.5.2 and below
Install the universal version of forge. Open the folder and drag the everything inside the minecraft.jar. On a Mac, open it with the Unarchiver. You can download it at the App Store, not the one online.
Then run Minecraft, and the mods folder and config folder will generate themselves.
Step 4: Creating new Minecraft Directory
Create a new folder, on your desktop, preferably, and name it whatever you want. It should be something like mcgame directory or minecraft. Open the launcher. Under "edit profile" or "new profile", tick "Game Directory " and select the path to the directory folder. On a mac, you can just go to that folder and click get info, then look at General, Where. Copy the path and add the folder name at the end. WARNING. For some reason, selecting another directory with your saves, resource pacs, mods, etc' etc' in it will delete everything. Choose a different folder and then put them in.
Step 5: Play and enjoy:)
Just select the profile and run Minecraft. Enjoy your new MultiMC-like official launcher!
Step 6: Custom Icon(Optional)
I think that the icon can be changed by going into the assets/virtual/legacy/icons folder and replacing the .icns, which is a crafting table by default. WARNING. This is untested
