Kind of on this same note of base classes, I downloaded Forge a few days ago, and the function you call to get custom textures in game was private (or maybe protected, I can't remember). Have they fix'd this yet or is it still the same? I know they made the block texture call public a day or two ago, but I never saw anything about items.

and i can't really help with this, since i can't even get the forge to decompile right...

Do you have to decompile when you update an existing mod? Because I just installed it with the .exe and I was good to go. Or does it decompile it while installing and that's what is messing up for you?
I honestly have just been trying all sorts of random/various methods to get stuff to work in 1.6...

i'm not sure if i set this up right...but i got the new mcp, and then got the froge src. i put the "forge" folder from it's src into mcp and went into and ran "install.bat" after it's done, mcp looks the same as b4 i did forge, there's no "src" folder, and the jars folder doesn't have anything in it (expect the proprieties file). I thought forge downloaded the mc jar and put it in the jars folder cause i saw it downloading assets 'n stuff....

Yeah, they changed the way textures are called. It's now some crazy function with all sorts of letters and stuff. But last time I checked, it was still a private function, so there's no way to call it anyhow. =/

Yeah, but as long as they keep it the way it is with the weird letters and stuff, it won't be that much different. Just adding a .func_111206_d("texture_name"); to the end of the setUnlocalizedName thing. But they may completely change it. And it may already be changed. I haven't downloaded the new versions of Forge yet.

Also, I have tried replacing .setUnlocalizedName with .func_111206_d, and it didn't work. So, you're saying I need to add that too?

Anyways, naww, the portion of code would be .setUnlocalizedName("name").func_111206_d("name_of_texture"); I think. MCE626 is going to look into it now with the latest version of Forge and see what's up.
