There is mod for 1.9 pre-release with higher height (you can choose 64, 256, 512 or 1024). It's laggy but if you run Minecraft with "java -Xms4096m -Xmx4096m" (I've got 8GB but didn't try more than 4GB) it's even, hmm playable is too much, you can fly around in creative ;p. With default RAM I had 0-1 FPS and with parametres I had 10-20 FPS, CPU all time around 50% (i5 2410m), maybe becouse game can't use all of that. It's one of Fishtaco's mods http://www.minecraft...eterrain-f-key/
Cool, thanks for the heads up! :smile.gif:
At the very least it will serve as an example to people of what the difference is between linear chunks & 3D chunks, in terms of how differently they affect your system. The linear chunks slowing things down progressively as you increase height with them.
** Also; since he has a lower height version too, at 64, perhaps that will actually make the game a little faster for those with extremely slow systems? Worth a try. :smile.gif:
And I think that memory trick with java only really works if you have a 64 bit system & 64 bit java, just to warn people.
[EDIT]
Fishtaco's Height Mod has been added to this thread's OP. Again, thank you Kondiq for the heads up!
[EDITx2] Here's another report concerning this new mod:
Thanks for pointing that out. Curious as I am I tested the 512-version with default java memory settings. After several minutes of terrain generation I was actually able to move rather smoothly but as I soon noticed I had bad stutters freezing the game for several seconds every now and then upon moving horizontally. I'd say CC works much better, performancewise, but fishtaco's stuff makes you wanna play around nonetheless.
[EDITx3] And another report from Hopfenkaltschale along with some screenshots:
It's amazing, I attempted to use the other height mod for 1.9 pre-release [ fishtaco's ], but my computer could only handle 256 map height... Then I ran 1.7.3 and your mod [ Cubic Chunks ] could play so much better than the other one, I even switched the render distance to far and the graphics to fancy (usually its short, my comp isn't the best)... averaged 56 fps.
Looks like you are using the Linear Chunks method to reach the 256 height. (16x16x256) vs (16x16x128).
It sounds like Terracraft is a Total Conversion Mod [WIP] (Work in Progress) that is meant to turn Minecraft into a 3D Terraria, and also happens to increase the height to 256 as a part of reaching that goal.
I just want people to understand what it is so that they know what it is and what it isn't before they try it out. For instance; from my reading of it's thread Terracraft apparently isn't meant to use any normal Minecraft mods other than itself, though it might allow "Terracraft mods" in the future.
* So Terracraft is not a general purpose Height Mod, but can be a really fun way to experience having a Higher World with Minecraft! :smile.gif: So long as your computer is fast enough to handle double-high linear chunks.
** Also; it appears that Terracraft uses an Installer to convert Minecraft into Terracraft.
( Unfortunately that means I won't be able to test it - I'll only do manual mod installs, but I can understand the value of having an installer available. Hopefully a manual method becomes available too. )
A New Test version of the Cubic Chunks Height Mod has just been made available. Many of us have been waiting for this one. It's not the full release of 1.5.2 but the 3rd Test version.
The important thing about this release is that now includes full 3D Chunks Terrain Generation, up to most ANY height! It uses the Biome Terrain Mod .ini file in the minecraft folder to determine a worlds features. Once you have run this version the file should be in your folder. You can open it with any Text file editor. Just start experimenting with the various settings then create a new world with those saved settings and see what you get. :smile.gif:
Please remember though that this is a Test version of the mod and this new type of Terrain Generation for it is bleeding edge. It will continue to improve and more options will become available.
The Link to this version of the mod can be found in the Experimental Version downloads in the usual CC download area in the OP, or here below:
* Please direct all questions concerning the use of this test version and it's terrain generation to Robinton's thread, as he just released it and is mostly the one who understands this test version best.
A Fix patch has been released for the v1.5.2x3 Test version of the Cubic Chunks Height mod. Please remember that the terrain generation in this version is highly experimental. You can always go back to using v1.5.1 if you would prefer to use the most recent Stable build.

Hey everyone. There is a new Bug-Fix & Options Patch for Cubic Chunks v1.5.2x3 Test. You really need to download and add this patch if you are playing around with this version!
** btw: Robinton's RMob mob is in the 1.5.2 Test versions. This is only due to some code dependency in the test version and it will be removed as a separate download again for the Final version.
. kinnikinnick started writing Instructions for how to access the new Terrain Generation variables for the Cubic Chunks v1.5.2x3 Test version and newer and explains some of the effects that you can get by changing each variable!

When i install this patch i get blackscreen in MC :sad.gif:
When i install Cubic Chunks i do get the possibility to build higher than 128 and deeper than 0, but i don't get the awesome high mountain maps generated like those shown on youtube. Also can't find any settings in the Modloader options ingame for cubic chunks. I also tried it with and without the newest ToweringPhoenixV1.4.2. What could be the problem?
- I removed the META INF file, even those from all .jar files
- Used the MCpatcher patching order like said (first modloader, then mods, second last cubic chunks and last HD textures)
- running on W7 x64
- the mods i use are: Mo' Creatures (with it's required GuiAPI and AudioMod), SPC and TMI
When i install the patch "Cubic Chunks - Bug-Fixes & Options" with MCpatcher, it says ok.class conflicts with ModLoader and yf. gs. and fd.class conflicts with cubic chunks.
Ok, first. Be sure that you are only deleted the Meta-Inf folder from the minecraft.jar file and not for any other jars you find in the bin folder.
Next, be sure your minecraft version is 1.7.3, as CC hasn't updated yet.
Next, Mo creatures might not be compatible with Cubic at this time. Please try the installation without it for this first time. SPC & TMI should be fine though.
Then make sure the main Cubic Chunks version you are installing is 1.5.2x3 and not any of the earlier ones like 1.4.2 or anything, since you sound like you want to play with the terrain.
Then apply the patch during the exact same install as everything else since you are using the mcpatcher method. But have the patch come after the main CC in the list.
* Also; there is a new additional patch you might want to add after the last patch in that list; 1.5.2x3 Biome Border Fix [Patch] [2011-09-26]
This should work, though I haven't personally used this install method in a while, I have in the past. Please let us know how that works out. :smile.gif:
Wow, there is yet another patch + a Far-View Add-on for 1.5.2x3 that are now linked above 1.5.2x3 in the OP. Check them out!
* Warning: The Far-View Add-on for 1.5.2x3 is not the the compressed chunk view feature that will be added later, this is a raw view distance extender, and as such WILL lower your fps dramatically! This is most useful for getting screenshots, or if you already have insanely high fps with your computer then you could get away with using one of these views all the time. :wink.gif:
** Thanks to sevenfour for letting Robinton use his Far-View methods to allow for Cubic Chunks compatibility! :smile.gif:
It adds an option to enable the view mod to your options.txt, so if you want longer view, add "use74sFarViewMod:true" right after the "showcoordsinfo:" line.
OK, seems i took the wrong package of CC, now it's working.
Amazing, first i tested it without any patches and always landed in a huge cavern world without escape which was pretty frightening and was bugging me....with patches the world appers to be himalaya all the way?!
Is that normal?
Also can't get MC to work faster, lots of micro shuttering and lags. Already tried with the parameters -Xmx1024m in java, seems to not have any affect because in the debug screen ingame it always shows the same amount of memory (910MB) :sad.gif:
I'm glad you got it working! There are a couple more patches now too if you would like to add those, but DON'T add the Far-View Add-on if your fps is already low.
Yeah, as soon as the new caverns were added the fps started dropping. But that's why that is a Test version. :wink.gif:
* If this is your first experience with Cubic Chunks I'd highly recommend just installing v1.5.1 for now and waiting for all of the testing and work to be done with 1.5.2 before installing it. 1.5.2x is really only for those wanting to test the bleeding edge version. Not for those who want to just play and enjoy it. :wink.gif:

Sorry for the questions, but I don't have time to read everything at the moment since its been a while since I checked this thread...
Has the mod been updated to 1.8?
Is the terrain generation updated as well?
If yes to both above, can I play with my existing world, and will it work fine (unlike what happens when bringing a 1.7 world into 1.8)? Like, does that converter work just fine back and forth?
Reason being, in my current single player world, I have a capital city of sorts that deserves a massive central spire, yet 60-odd blocks isn't nearly tall enough...
It really needs much work, no matter what seed i type in, i always get huge mountain landscapes with no real flat ground and it's mostly snowy. Also either i get spawned on a cliff or inside a mountain and have to dig my way out. :dry.gif:
I have no idea how to get this: but something seems not to work for me.
Yeah, to change the Terrain in the way you want you must change the settings in a new settings file. CC is now using a converted and modified version of the Phoenix Terrain Mod in order to give you control over many aspects of how the terrain is made.
Some instructions for finding and changing this file are 2 posts above your first one here and linked to above the download for 1.5.2x3. Or Click [ Here ]

No, it's still 1.7.3 for the moment. But if you have a PC you can easily create a separate Minecraft folder with 1.7.3 and Cubic Chunks if you want and still play 1.8.1 in your normal folder. elmotactics has made the following video showing exactly how to do it. I now have several folders set up the way he shows and it works great!!
The Terrain Generation has been updated but only in the Experimental 1.5.2x3 Test version. It, and it's patches are linked to in the Experimental section of the OP's CC Downloads. You could use the above method to make a test install for this and play around with it if you want, but I wouldn't consider it safe to move everything into that world yet.
Your last question I cannot completely answer at this time. The terrain gen is still under development.

Ah. Guess its more waiting then, heh. I don't really have much I can do outside of my main world. I mean... why build if its outside of my epic city?
Anyway, one other question then.... when you convert a previously-normal world to cubic chunks with a ridiculous height limit... what happens to what was once bedrock? Do you get a stupid-deep lava lake there? Solid rock?

Well, regarding bringing your old world into a Cubic one: The 0-128 part you bring in will remain exactly the same terrain-wise (but you can build up to +32km and dig down to -32km even in the old chunks), it's only new chunks that will be different in regards to terrain.
You can do like I've been doing while testing the newer pre versions of minecraft; create a separate minecraft install folder per these instructions and put a copy of your current world or core world after trimming it with MCEdit into it then play around without any commitment. :wink.gif:
When the Cubic Chunks Height Mod starts your world up, or converts it (with the World Save Converter), it replaces all bedrock with regular stone. Your world will now go all the way down to -32km. And yes, there will be a fairly deep ocean of Lava at the very bottom, but it will take a good while for you to get all the way down to there. :wink.gif:

I know how to have multiple installs, heh. I think I have like... four or five at this point. Aether mod... my own mix of awesome mods... and so on.
But, good to know that the bedrock is moved down. That's the main thing - I have several quarries that would be wonderful to just continue, rather than having to spread out and dig more. They're kind of an eyesore after all, and if I expand too much more, I'll encroach on my Capital's land.
Plus, way down there, didn't you guys add in Diamond Blocks or something?
Folks, per request; A Cubic Chunks Screenshot thread + A Cubic Chunks Video thread have been made by Robinton.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to post any Screenshots or Videos of Cubic Worlds & Cubic Creations taller than what would fit in a normal vanilla minecraft world into the appropriate thread. :smile.gif:

:smile.gif:

:wink.gif:

Has the mod been updated to 1.8?
Is the terrain generation updated as well?
If yes to both above, can I play with my existing world, and will it work fine (unlike what happens when bringing a 1.7 world into 1.8)? Like, does that converter work just fine back and forth?
Reason being, in my current single player world, I have a capital city of sorts that deserves a massive central spire, yet 60-odd blocks isn't nearly tall enough...

:wink.gif:

Tell me about it. Currently at -20,000.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to post any Screenshots or Videos of Cubic Worlds & Cubic Creations taller than what would fit in a normal vanilla minecraft world into the appropriate thread. :smile.gif:
