The current Minecraft viewing distance won't let you see all the way to the top of the Towers from the ground, though MCEdit will, but you can fly up & down to see it all for now until the height mod removes the viewing distance problem.
SimplyHAX is a Drop-in mod for Flying that is definitely compatible with the Cubic Chunks Mod. You can find it in this listing along with Install directions. The SPC/fly command is compatible too.
There is a shorter version of this same World Map that works with Vanilla normal Minecraft if you wish to download that instead/too. The link is below:
:Flint and Steel: Broken Link : Terrain generator source (Both)
Thanks! Robinton rearranged some of his files. I've now fixed the prior links and even added a New Bleeding Edge version of the Terrain Generator Code!

Yeah, I'm glad Robinton came across minecraft at some point and chose to use his abilities to make it better. :wink.gif:
It is possible to make a currently map higher(when it will work for 1.8.), or must i generate a new map?
Absolutely! Always make a back-up copy of your world/map first though.
You can either just start playing your world after installing the Cubic Chunks mod and allow it to auto-convert your world chunk by chunk, which will slow down your fps for a while, or use his standalone tool to convert your entire world at once.
You can even use the same tool to convert your world back into a regular minecraft world again whenever you want. :smile.gif:

You know, this makes alot of sense, implementation-wise. If you wanted to make the game "infinite" in every direction, the easiest way to do it would be loading a sphere of cubic chunks around the character, instead of the hardcoded 128x16x16 chunks in a circle/cylinder. I assume this is what you guys did, with stunning results! Has Notch ever commented on the viability of implementing this system instead of his (frankly silly) 128 height limit system?
EDIT: whenever the mod API comes out, i will be using this, and only this, as my mod of choice :smile.gif:
question: does MC generate\load chunks if something beside player try modify it? for example quarry from buildcraft.
Sure! The buildcraft quarries don't go beneath 0 but that's because they are hard-coded that way. The author could change that, perhaps add a config file where the user could change the allowable levels when using a height mod. This is what blakmajik, the author of the Zeppelin Mod, did upon his fanbase request. Zeppelin now can have it's max height changed in it's config file to work perfectly with the Cubic Chunks Height Mod.
For instance. If you fly your zeppelin up above 128 then set it to fly forward then jump out, it will keep on flying and causing chunks to load etc, heh heh. :smile.gif: Incidentally, with Zeppelin Mod there is no down limit coded in at all, so it's elevators can just keep going down. :smile.gif:
How disappointing, I was really looking forward to this :sad.gif:
Any other news about this? Did the Mojang guys say anything about this feature?
I've not heard anything else. But it wouldn't even matter if it did work the way people thought it did, you would not be happy with the results. Even just raising the height to 256 by doubling the size of the default minecraft linear chunks (16x16x128) to (256) would slow the game down noticeably and much more so for SMP. This is why notch won't do it, and wisely so. The 3D Chunk method used by the Cubic Chunks mod is the only true option.

Exactly! I have yet to hear notch directly respond to any remarks or questions regarding the 3DChunks method or the Cubic Chunks Mod, and he's been asked over and over again... Frankly; Robinton would love to have his Cubic Chunks code become a part of or option for Vanilla Minecraft. If anyone can get notch to have a meeting, chat or dialog with Robinton about this then please let us know!

Yeah, for vanilla I would tend to think it would be an after release sort of thing since mojang has their hands full trying to keep up with their current promises before November.
Besides, it gives Robinton more time to flesh out the features the ways he and the people using it want so that by the time mojang comes knocking the extra features will be essentially complete. :wink.gif:
First off, I would like to say a great big "THANK YOU" for this. Ever since Notch posted the picture of his fiddling with the map height, I've been desperately searching for anything that could compensate or even be better than what he could potentially offer through vanilla Minecraft.
The fact that we are essentially unlimited in terms of horizontal space in the world, yet are capped vertically makes absolutely no sense. People commonly say "we don't need maps to be that big." Or "Minecraft is fine just the way it is, it doesn't need to be adjusted."
And to that I say: "How would you feel if the horizontal space was limited to 256 blocks?" Just the idea of that is unbearable. For me, this whole debate about whether or not Minecraft's altitude limit needs to be extended is not an option up for debate, it's simply a MUST. And just to reiterate the whole ideology; yeah, we have all this space horizontally, but that doesn't mean you have to actually utilize all of it, by no means. So what makes you (speaking generally here, not specifically "you") think that if by having an extended altitude you are required to build up to that point. The ideology of the other side of this "debate" is ridiculous. (that is of course in my own opinion)
Needless to say, I support this, and everything you are doing. I'm hoping that a banner(s) will be made for this; this is something that NEEDS to be heard. And I can only hope that Mojang, at the very least, looks over and notices what you have done.
Congrats and I wish you guys the best of luck and success with this. You have my full support.

Vertical unlimited spaces indeed sound very cool, when an appropriate generator would exist. The current generator wasn't designed for unlimited spaces, and I don't think the devs are going to change that anytime soon (too much work to balance everything out for 128+ heights).
By the way, is this stuff working for 1.8?
The terrain generators for the greater height are being worked on, and in fact anyone is free to develop one that can plug in to the Cubic Chunks Height Mod.
No, it's not 1.8 yet. I wouldn't expect a 1.8 version until sometime after the MCP has been updated for 1.8.

Well, v1.51 is now Forge 1.0.6 compatible. You can now play the Cubic Chunks Height Mod (v1.51) without even modloader if you want, or with it, or with modloader and Forge or just forge. However you need it. And I'm certain that I've seen some with ModloaderMP installed too.
Nothing further regarding SMP atm though. Robinton did a lot of work with the whole Forge compatibility thing and now is completely porting over the Terrain Generation code into pure Cubic code instead of arrays, which will allow customizable higher than 128 terrain with ease.
I believe after that he will be looking at raising the amount of available BlockID's, which will benefit everyone using Forge too.
He'll be getting back to the SMP stuff soon enough though. :wink.gif:
I've been playing with CubicChunks 1.51 for a while and aside from the saving chunks screen of death that pops up from time to time have greatly enjoyed the increased height. One thing I would like to now though or perhaps two depending on how you want to look at it).
How do you get the mountains that I see in the pics? and are there any good/interesting seeds? The reason I ask is for some reason even though I do have the increased height/depth I haven't yet managed to generate a world with a mountain higher than y:150.

There is mod for 1.9 pre-release with higher height (you can choose 64, 256, 512 or 1024). It's laggy but if you run Minecraft with "java -Xms4096m -Xmx4096m" (I've got 8GB but didn't try more than 4GB) it's even, hmm playable is too much, you can fly around in creative ;p. With default RAM I had 0-1 FPS and with parametres I had 10-20 FPS, CPU all time around 50% (i5 2410m), maybe becouse game can't use all of that. It's one of Fishtaco's mods http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/544429-19pre181fishtacos-mods-better-caves-and-more-18biometerrain-f-key/
1:1 Scale version Replica of the WTC World Trade Center towers and Complex.
The Towers are up to 417 meters/blocks high, requiring you to first Install the Cubic Chunks Height Mod before accessing the world save, or else you will corrupt it. Go Here for Cubic Chunks Install Directions. Currently 1.7.3 only!!!
** The thread and download link for the 1:1 Scale version is Here.
