It will work on MP server? I can't fine description of it in main posts (sorry of my blindness if it is there :wink.gif: )
Are you talking about the Cubic Chunks Mod? There is not a current Server version of the mod, though it is hoped that we will get one some while after it is updated for the 1.0.0 version of Minecraft. :smile.gif:
There is an old experimental server version in the Cubic Downloads section, but you will have to use the Client version with the same number as well as the b1.7.3 version of Minecraft. And it is experimental and buggy, so no complaints. :wink.gif:

I will be adding MineT3485's Mod. :wink.gif: There is a major feature expansion expected for the MineUp! mod, I kept thinking it would be out soon so I waited for that to simplify the description etc. I may post it before then anyway.
Thank you for posting about it though. I would hope that people would let me know about anything new fitting this category, I won't necessarily know right away. :wink.gif:

Ok I love this idea, tried it with Beta 1.7.3, and it worked perfectly (I did not use Modloader because I had tried it before and it gave the black screen thing).
Since I wanted to operate in Creative Mode, I installed the 1.8.1 version by:
Installing minecraft 1.8.1.jar file
Opened with winrar, deleted META-inf folder
Copied all files from ToAddToMinecraft folder (including the net file, should i have done that?)
Opened Minecraft
Created a new world in Creative Mode
It looked like it was going to start generating the world, but then the screen went black.
Please Help! I really really love this mod and would love to build some amazing structures with it!

I'm glad you discovered the Cubic Chunks Mod! Modloader, the version for MC b1.7.3 should not blackscreen the b1.7.3 versions of CC, please make sure you have the correct version of Modloader for that version. But that's moot now if you are moving on to the b1.8.1 versions. :wink.gif:
All of the currently existing versions of CC for MC b1.8.1 still require Modloader and then Forge to be installed first. You will find the following chain of links in my download section for the mc b1.8.1 versions of CC:

Jeb is experimenting with greater height in Minecraft worlds. Not much info available now but he is doing performance testing. It's probably safe to assume his tests are with the current Minecraft Linear Chunks method.

Wait, so to clarify, this DOESN'T let me raise my existing world ceiling? I have to make a new one? Because I've been trying to build a gaint Felicia (Darkstalkers) and only legs fit [lol] on my map. There is no way I can redo all of that work on another world, so, is there any way to raise existing ceilings? PLEASE?!?!?
LOL
I made an account just for this. If this is reaching "it can do whatever I just said" status, then please say when and provide instructions for download. As hard as it might be, I'll download every mod necessary.

The Cubic Chunks Mod will allow you to continue on with your already existing Vanilla World. You can either just properly install the Cubic Chunks Mod per the instructions in this thread's OP then enter your world and it will auto-convert sections on the fly, or you can use Robinton's World Save Converter to pre-convert the entire world at once to reduce in-game lag. ** Always back-up your world first!! All of this is explained in the OP.
However; the Cubic Chunks for mc 1.0.0 is still being updated and is not ready for Prime-time yet. The last version for mc b1.7.3 and Test 6 for b1.8.1 should be pretty solid if you need to start right away. :smile.gif: You will still be able to continue on with that world in future versions of Cubic Chunks.

thanks, i'll be patient for this new version. noob question: vanilla world? why does everyone say vanilla?
thanks, i'll be patient for this new version. noob question: vanilla world? why does everyone say vanilla?
Well, it just refers to the regular default version of something without any "flavorful" additions to it. :wink.gif:
In this case the unmodded version of Minecraft or a World file made by the unmodded Minecraft and conforming to the default world file format and limits.

So I've been messing around for a while trying to get a flatish world that i can build up and up off of. I keep getting floating islands waaaaay up in the air that get in the way of my buildings. Can you tell me the settings for a flat world?

Which height Mod are you using? If it's Cubic Chunks then which version of it and Minecraft are you using.
If you are using CC 1.5.3 Test 5 or 6 for MC b1.8.1 then you could try the following CubicChunksSettings to get a somewhat normal looking world with CC.
These settings were first posted by Leaf_It:
//-----Leaf_It V1 + Caves-----
//---BTM options:---
waterLevel:63
maxAverageHeight:0.0
maxAverageDepth:0.0
fractureHorizontal:1.5
fractureVertical:1.5
volatility1:2.0
volatility2:2.0
volatilityWeight1:0.0
volatilityWeight2:1.0
cloudHeight:256.0
evenCaveDistribution:false
caveFrequency:15
caveRarity:25
generateCaves:true//Whether or not to generate caves; off by default to prevent lag
//---CC additional options:---
numTerrainCubes:50//Terrain height is 16*this
terrainCubesOffset:20//Max ocean depth is -16*this
noise6Val:1.121//NOTE: disabled in Beta 1.8.1
noise7Val:40.0
noise7Divisor:8000.0
largeScale6Multiplier:250.0//NOTE: disabled in Beta 1.8.1
largeScale7Multiplier:0.0//NOTE: currently disabled
lavaTableOffset:-400.0
lavaTableFactor1:1.0
lavaTableFactor2:100.0
Or, if using Cubic Chunks (Any version) you can bring any vanilla world into it for conversion. So you can modify a vanilla world with whatever tools you want then bring it into CC. Just make sure to pregenerate as much of that world as you want in advance before bringing it into CC because anything outside of that range will be generated by CC.
You could even take a "Flat World" made with the new mc 1.1 Super-Flat World-Type option and give it to CC to use in an earlier version of Minecraft. That only gives you 3 blocks of dirt above bedrock though, so expect that void-fog if used in b1.8.1 without a no-voidfog mod.
Hopefully that helps.

Does anyone know where I can find file format information for Cubic Chunks? Like, what does the equivalent of a normal minecraft region file look like internally?
This is soo exciting...I really hope & pray that Jeb finishes testing soon and integrates an option for choosing map height (:
Perhaps we are lucky and Jeb is not only integrating an option for choosing map height but integrating the whole CubicChunks with 3DChunks and so on in Vanilla! That would be -r-e-a-l-l-y- AWESOME!
That would be nice, but I wouldn't expect anything like that soon. :wink.gif:

It is the same as a normal region file, except the file name has an extra 'y' field in it, and the sector size is 256 bytes instead of the usual 4096.
Good to see you in this thread again Nocte! :smile.gif:
Rumsey; Here is the code for the Save Format that Nocte & Robinton wrote together for Cubic Chunks. It's from back in July 2011 so it's not exactly the same as CC's format is atm since I heard Robinton say something about tweaking more height-map info into it or something, but it should be largely the same and might help you.
