I'm trying to find a way to add effects like jump boost to boots to use for the jumping puzzle portions of a map I'm currently building. Is there any way to accomplish such a feat, or am I going to have to settle for beacons or potions?
I am not very familiar with nbt tags, but I know that you can do it in game with a fancy command, or get nbtedit or nbtexplorer to add the jump boost. If you can find the right filter, mcedit should be able to do that too.

Thanks for the suggestion mate. Stil having some trouble finding the right method to use, but I'll be sure to get it eventually. I'm not to great with the coding or complex commands either so I take all the help I can get XD
Although you cannot have actual potion effects when wearing armor, nbt tags can give someone say, jump boost until they stop wearing them.
I've never heard of this either. Some attributes might have the same effect as some potions, like movementSpeed or attackDamage, but I have never heard of potion effects being attached to items. You will have to clarify or provide some links.

My mistake, I was unclear about what I was saying. I did some very extensive research on what was possible with nbt tags and other tricks, and when I said potion effects, I meant things like movementSpeed, not actual potion effects with particles and such. After looking, I did find that things like jump boost could not be granted with nbt tags. I believe I got the idea in my head with the active affects tag in /summon

Shucks! Well perhaps in the future this will be implemented, then. Thanks for the clarification.
i think the best method would be to use the /effect command

i have not seen any such attribute that would allow that
