This is just to show anyone that doesn't know how to create a blank world.
1)Create a new world and go into "More world options..."
2)Set the World Type to "Superflat" and hit "Customise".
3)Hit presets
4)You will see a text box above the default presets. In that text box, type "12".
5)Enter the world. You will notice the the world is just 1 layer of sand.
6)Go into creative mode and grab any random block. Place the block on top of the sand. You will notice all the sand blocks will start to fall and create a really cool, trippy effect. This will cause heaps of lag so just wait till the lag stops.
7) You now have a completely blank world! Just build off the floating block and get started!
A better way to do it:
1) Download and open MCEdit
2) Create New World
3) Change the 'Generator' selection to 'Flatland'
4) Set the height to '0'
5) Uncheck the 'Grass' box
6) Finish making the world and remove the sponge block that generates in the world
7) Save, then go onto the world in Minecraft
Because using sand (12) as the only layer creates exponentially increasing lag, I'd rather use 0 (air) (if it works) and used MCEdit or WorldEdit (//pos1, //pos2, //set 1) to create a block to function as a building base.

Does that only work for chunks around spawn? If you keep exploring off to the sides, will regular superflat start generating?
