- Just plop the mod in the mods folder within .minecraft as usual. Create the folder if it doesn't exist.
- Play
B] Forge, non internal. (ex: Biomes O Plenty)
- Download and run forge automatic installer.
- Run client once. - Place the mod in the mods folder.
- Select release 1.6.2-ForgeX.XX.X.XXX in new launcher (profile properties).
- Play
C] No forge, Internal. (ex: Optifine)
- Copy 1.6.2 folder inside of versions directory.
- Rename contents to whatever you want but these 4 things have to have the same name
1 The folder
2 The jar file
3 The json file
4 The id field inside of json file
- Open the jar you renamed. Delete the meta inf and drag and drop contents of mod inside.
- Select release "X" in new launcher (profile properties). Where X is whatever you chose as the name.
- Play
D] Forge, Internal. (ex: Wedge)
- Download and run forge automatic installer.
- Run client once.
- Follow the first two steps above but this time copy the newly generated forge folder inside of versions directory, not the 1.6.2 folder.
- Insert this code after
"{
"name": "net.minecraftforge:minecraftforge:9.10.0.796",
"url": "http://files.minecra...rge.net/maven/"
},"
Of course use whatever name is appropriate for the name and version depending on what mod it is.
- Now create this path inside of the libraries directory : net/optifine/optifine/1.6.2_HD_U_B3.
- Place a downloaded copy of the mod inside that last folder and name it like so : optifine-1.6.2_HD_U_B3. The name has to follow this rule : name used in json file, hyphen, version after colon in code. Capitilzation and spelling is critical in naming of folders and files, be careful.
- Select release "X" in new launcher (profile properties). Where X is whatever you chose as the name of the folder and files inside the versions directory.
- Add "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true", without quotes to the java arguments field. If parameters already exist in the field, be sure there is a space between them and this line.
- Play
Multiple mods are installed in this method by merging the jars placed inside libraries directory. So if I wanted Wedge on top of Optifine (and forge), I would drag and drop the contents of it into the optifine-1.6.2_HD_U_B3.jar file. Also good idea to have a name the reminds you both mods are being used : like OptiWedge or something.
*Note : Internal mod refers to those that required dragging and dropping of archived contents in 1.5.2 and earlier. Now you only have to modify jars if you don't use forge and have internal mods.

"Wake me, when you need me."
No
-this is for reis mini map with no forge-
You always drop the whole archive, for ANY mod that goes in that folder.
