Having memory Issues? Installed Texture pack now MC wont run? Try this.
(this is a WINDOWS 32bit fix, for mac i have no idea how u would do this)
*64-bit is same thing, just location will be slightly different*
1. Find your Javaw.exe location ("C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe") by default
- JRE7 if you upgraded to java7
2. Find your minecraft.exe location ("C:\Users\YOURPROFILE\Desktop\minecraft.exe") Desktop default (change YOURPROFILE to your username)
3. open Notepad (ctrl+R) type NOTEPAD press enter
4. copy and paste this into notepad (yes the "" also)
This might help me, but id rather wait for the full version of java 7
+ wait and see if notch and his team fix this issue themselves as it never happened to me in 1.5_01
Well it increased my speed to the point i could notice at least. also allocating the memory thing works with java6 also. just point it to your java 6 folder, instead of java 7. Java7 is not required to do this memory thing. just java 7 feels like it runs better to me is all.
also Java 7 has a release date of july, 2011. so its pretty much complete anyways.
FYI, Minecraft only allocated like 450 megs, doing the minecraft.bat thing allocates an entire gig of ram (2x the memory)(obviously your not gonna be able to do this if your only using 512 megs of ram.. but i highly doubt anyone is doing that :smile.gif:
HIGHLY suggest downloading BOTH 32-bit AND 64bit java and then testing minecraft (if you cant get the 32/64bit version of java 6, my link takes you straight to java 7 32, and 64 bit downloads (just need the JRE versions)
I will be installing Vista 64, bit (since that version seems to be the popular crashing OS in the forum, along with win7 64-bit.
and see if i get the same error while just having java6 32 bit installed. i believe its more or less just an issue with java and 64 bit operating systems..
almost every post i see *crashing* are 64 bit users :sad.gif:
im only running 32 bit win7 at the moment, so im not having any issues with crashes.
for some reason any number higher then 1024 spits out an error.. im messing around with it and seeing if i can make it work with higher ram settings. if anyone else has an idea lemme know. doubling the 1024 to 2048 crashes with error also.
i have 4gb ram, the highest number i can put in this atm is 1410 (1.3 gigs) gotta admit, MC is running fast as hell now.. cant imagine what 4gb would do to it..
hey i can't uninstall java6 it says it had trouble with windows installer or something but i donloaded java7, so will minecraft just switch to use java7 or do i have to delete java6? if so, is there another way to uninstall it you know of?

Need Java 7? Download from Official Site
(java 7 is not required, 6 works too)
- add/remove programs to uninstall java 6
5. Save as Minecraft.bat (or name it anything you want really)
-it will open up a dos box, just close it when minecraft boots up-
6. Join server or SP map and press F3 and check to see if it says 450, or 1000+, should be good to go.

noticed your running 64bit windows.

Do you think it'll solve the problem where you crash after logging into a server (worked before) but single player works?
sorry my minecraft was located on d:/ if your minecraft.exe is on your desktop then im assuming the address your looking for is
C:\Users\*YOUR_ACCOUNT*\Desktop\minecraft.exe
^^^^^^
thats for windows 7, im not sure if its the same for xp or vista
and the batch file can be put anywhere, since it points it to wherever your minecraft is located.
(the batch file may open a DOS window before minecraft opens up, just exit out of it when minecraft pops up)
Not saying it IS a virus...but figured I'd say SOMETHING.
Norton sucks dude. Get AVG or Microsoft Security Essentials.
thats the java site... its the damn developers... how in the hell is that fishy?
dont use it then.. stick with java 6.. and continue your issues with minecraft.. your call
Norton is so 2000, there **** hasnt been good since y2k.. and even then it was bawls.
Please put EXACTLY what I type into Java when I'm running Java 6 for 32-bit. Thanks :biggrin.gif:
Open notepad
paste this
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -jar "C:\Users\Tom\Desktop\minecraft.exe"
save as MINECRAFT.BAT and run
when you enter your game press F3 and in the top right corner it should be 1000+ instead of 450
Glad its working! happy mining :smile.gif:
what did i do wrong?

i suggest keeping it at 1024 its more then enough.
here are my settings and info
i wouldnt mess with your ram then as mc is pretty much taking up 75% of your ram u have.
changing your settings to 1024 may cause it to not even run. (as you telling it to use 1024 when you only have 756)
1024 = 1gb
