Click the options button located above the login button on your client. Once clicked, it gives you the option to force update. After you click force update, simply login to the client as normal.
If I had to guess, I'd say that there are no files in your .minecraft folder because when you open Minecraft, then login, and it does its "Downloading Packages" thing, it's downloading the Minecraft files and putting them in your .minecraft folder so that Minecraft will run properly. So if you're never getting to that screen, or if it's crashing on that screen/etc., that would explain why there's no files in your .minecraft folder. I hope that made sense to you.
And Death_Rider beat me to the force update thing. Heh.

When I click the Minecraft icon, it doesn't load anything at all except the the Security Warning, whick I click "Run" and nothing happens. I can't get to that screen.

Mineraft won't open, as I said. I can't get to the log in screen.
I have the same problem i try to force update and it does not work check and i have no files i tred it again and it did not do any thing it just said "not download"
I think this a problem with SuperAntiSpyware running as local app. I have no idea about the conditions involved, but there was at least one instance where that program was somehow blocking minecraft from running as a standard window (but still allows in-browser to run fine).
1) You have 4 Anti-Malware programs?! That is extremely unstable! Not to mention the resources they'll be eating up!
2) Make sure you have no Viruses, use your bazzillion Anti-Viruses to good use.
3)Go to the "Action Centre" in Control Panel and check the error log, see if there are any errors coming up with minecraft.exe
My dad will freak if I do that, it's his computer. He likes to put lots of stuff on it to protect his computer...

I too am having this issue. the installer locks up on the screen that says updating minecraft then it says done loading. with a green progress bar that is 95% from the end. I have tried on three different computers all with the same issue. i have tried disabling my antivirus and firewalls as well as bypassing my router to make sure it wasnt causing the issue. any advise would be appreciated.
I've downloaded Minecraft before with no problems, but I just downloaded Minecraft (from the official site) and...
1) Minecraft won't open
2) When I open the .minecraft folder, there is absolutely no files.
I'd really like to be able to play Minecraft, is this maybe because of the new update?
Thanks.
Do you have Java installed?
I'm assuming it won't open because theres absolutely no files. It's basically just an icon. And yes, I do have Java.
Whats "force update"? And I've tried downloading it and re downloading it 3 times.
What anti-virus do you have?
