Playing in small servers almost always results in this error when I play on my college's wifi network. It usually occurs after dying, landing with the elytra, or going through the nether. it can take anywhere from a single try to hundreds of tries (!) to let me actually connect to the game properly. currently I've been trying to reconnect for almost 24 hours now after going through a nether portal. I've tried all sorts of things to get it to stop, including whitelisting java on windows firewall, installing 2 different VPNs, turning the firewall off entirely, etc. The problem is that it's such a vague error and there's no way to get any detailed information on it to my knowledge, so there's literally dozens of possible solutions that could work. is there anything else I can do?! I just want to play my friend's SMP server...
It's college internet, it's not the best thing in the world, but I don't think it's the problem because large servers like say, Hypixel work perfectly fine! it's just small servers
I only played multiplayer once before I moved to college (I'm new to Java) but it consisted of a series of Aternos servers and it worked perfectly fine... ATERNOS! so I'm guessing it's some problem with the network. I'm heading to my mom's house for a week for Thanksgiving so we'll see, I guess
well I finally reconnected yesterday and noticed that, while I was flying, my connection to the server on the Tab menu became ridiculously low to the point that I frequently splatted on the ground because it took too long to register firework launches. so I definitely think it's something to do with the internet, I'll have to ask someone if they can reset it
