Alright so I'm new to minecraft. Played about 6ish months on xbox just started playing on my laptop. First time ever playing any game on a PC actually. My computer is not cutting it. Mob farms lag quick flying with an elytra and chunks do not load fast enough at all and I have no idea what i should look into or what I really need for a smoothe experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know much about lag and what settings to change but I'd suggest going to Options on the pause or start screens, choosing Video Settings and start experimenting with lowering values to see if they help and if you can live with the lower quality.
Lower the Resolution
Switch from Fancy Graphics to Fast.
Set Smooth Lighting to Minimum or OFF
Lower the Render Distance, but no lower than 10 unless it's necessary.
(Lower than 10 causes problems with mobs not despawning around the edges of the loaded part of the world.)
Lower the Framerate
Set Clouds to Fast or OFF
Set Particles to Decreased or Minimal
Turn Entity Shadows OFF
And posting the prestanda of your laptop could help those who know more about that stuff to give specific suggestions.
CPU type and speed
RAM
Graphics card if any.
Operating system.
Etc

Oh, and if the above isn't enough.
Try not having mob farms and stuff in the spawn chunks, within render distance of where you need lag free gaming or close enough to each other that more than one is loaded at a time, or build them with on/off switches and turn them off when not needed.

Just testing.
Post a screenshot with F3 enabled and your JVM arguments.
In case you, like me, have never heard of JVM arguments before this is a YouTube video that shows where to find them.
Be careful not to change them by accident when copying them to paste into a post.
