Whenever I launch minecraft, audio from programs including Spotify and Discord immediately begin to stutter, when they were working smoothly beforehand. I know it's minecraft causing the issue, and I don't believe it's my internet causing the issue. I don't get this issue with skype. Anybody know what's going on/have any fixes?
Edit: I only have this problem with minecraft, all my other games are fine. I have the same problem with both singleplayer and multiplayer. Sitting in the minecraft title screen doesn't cause the issue, but launching the client with the "Play Now" button does, until I get to the title screen.
.. so you're unhappy that Minecraft is working so hard to get the game up for you quickly, and you would like it to take it's time and not try so hard?
Also, if you've played with MC's memory settings you have only yourself to blame.

Minecraft isn't supposed to make other programs' audio broken, is it? I'm just asking because I want to know if there's a way to fix it - and quite honestly, I would take a doubled launching time without interrupted music over faster launch with audio stutters!
I have the default amount of RAM allocated to minecraft, 1G. I checked this on the F3 menu and from the jvm argument (-xmn1G). However, I have changed this for previous versions of minecraft from different profiles, but I don't think it would have an impact, correct me if I'm wrong.
Is it definitely a memory issue? I didn't realize, thanks for letting me know.
It would certainly be understandable for certain memory configurations.
There are people who recommend using ridiculous configurations, that when launched would cause Windows to have to swap all your currently running applications to disk, so of course all those applications are going to be majorly impacted.
In your case Xmn could definitely be causing various issues. This is not a parameter you should be changing. If you currently have 1G heap, and you have configured Xmn to 1G as well, then your JVM will be garbage collecting its mind out. MC should be running like crap with glitches caused by 'stop the world' garbage collection every few seconds.

Alright, thanks - this is very useful.
I've tried changing the minecraft profile JVM arguments (the ones changed via the launcher) to the default:
However, I still get the same issues, without a very noticable difference.
Should I change these settings in some way, or is there anything else I can do to try and fix the audio problems?
Edit: If this is useful information, my laptop has 4G Ram and a dual core 2.30 GHzIntel(R) Pentium (R) CPU B970
You have two cores. Minecraft wants to use two cores.
You have 4G of memory, Minecraft wants to use 1G of that.
This is a substantial fraction of your computer. If you have non-essential stuff running then shut it down before you start minecraft. Otherwise Windows does not know what's important or not and will impact running applications in an unpredictable fashion.
For example, right now on my computer I have firefox and chrome running. Each of these is using 1G.
..just had the additional thought that Spotify at least is streaming the music. At startup MC checks and potentially downloads updates. It's possible that your network is being briefly overloaded then.
You might want to run Task Manager -> Performance -> Resource Monitor and see what is happening when this occurs.

Ooh - I've noticed that Minecraft is indeed using up a lot of CPU, with total CPU usage hovering just below 100% and meeting full CPU usage frequently, which is causing the stutters. I hadn't thought to do this, thanks!
Reducing graphical settings on my minecraft (Mainly render distance and switching to fullscreen) seemed to reduce the amount of CPU which Minecraft uses during regular gameplay, which also made the stutters stop.
However, I haven't found a way to have programs with audio run without stuttering when Minecraft launches. It would be nice to find a way to make Minecraft use less CPU when starting the launcher, but as I think you're saying, it would be difficult to launch minecraft with these other programs open.
From what I've seen from googling CPU issues with minecraft, people are saying that Minecraft has an inherently high CPU usage because it uses java, which is poorly optimised (something about the garbage collection you mentioned earlier). Is there anything I can do to reduce minecraft's high CPU demand (other than reducing graphical settings), especially during startup? Or is there not much I can do?
