At completely random times, minecraft (1.5.1) shuts down and windows crashes, displaying a full screen of solid color. I am forced to restart the system. I uninstalled all of my mods and tried running it vanilla for a few days, and the problem still happened at the same frequency.
Here is my system:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.80GHz
12.0 GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz (7-7-7-20)
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P6T (LGA1366)
1280MB GeForce GTX 570 (EVGA)
244GB Western Digital WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0 ATA Device (SATA)
977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EARS-22Y5B1 ATA Device (SATA)
I'm running Java 7 update 17 (64-bit)
When it crashes it does not generate a crash report.
Not sure if this means anything but I am usually running a dual monitor set up and playing flash videos on the opposite screen.
I sometimes have crashes with colour on my HD 6570 - with a dual-screen config.
I have a screen at 1920*1080@60hz and my secondary one is 1024*768@60hz.
1) Are you using Microsoft's drivers? If so, you'll need to get some Nvidia ones.
2) If you're using the latest Nvidia drivers, I suggest you downgrade to stable ones.
3) Is Minecraft using your i7's integrated graphics or your GTX 570?
4) Try updating LWJGL.
5) Please quote me when replying.
Wow thanks, I'll give it a shot with the LWJGL and report back if the problem continues.
Also, I don't know whether minecraft is running graphics off the i7 or the GTX, is there a way to determine that? I assume running off the GTX would be the better option, (provided the drivers are all in line)

Ok, gave it a few days here, still having regular crashes. I have:
1) Tried NVidia drivers, both newest and slightly older
2) I'm pretty sure my graphics are running off the GTX 570 since I'm getting FPS in the 200's
3) and I did a manual update of the LWJGL as suggested (ver. 2.8.4 [2.8.5 broke my shift-clicking])
Unless there is a surefire way to determine that my graphics are not running off my i7, I'm not sure what else to do.
