Okay, this is what I do in school. For giggles. In my spare time, when I'm not writing reports.
So, I was kind of upset when I saw they had blocked Minecraft in the whole school, not just the library. So, I saved myself the hassle and saved a BAT command in my drive, and kept playing. No biggie.
Now, they've blocked Spiral Knights. All the guides I've seen are for getting onto web sites through a web filter, not anything like playing an MMO through it. I thought of possibly doing work on it somehow, but I gave up pretty fast. FTP/UDP is not my thing.
I was looking into the alternative, however, of converting my account to and admin account.
This didn't look really hard. I'm sure it can be done, but what would you say the odds are of being discovered? And can the current admin accounts be demoted at that point?

That really differs. At my primary school, the teacher with the most knowledge just knew how to install a program. A friend of mine and me were able to get in very easily. We didn't do anything bad though. I like hacking into a school network, but only for the fun of getting trough. I never change any settings/marks/whatever.
At my secondary school, it was also easier. We created an admin account, and reinstalled windows O.o
I'm now going to another school, and the network there is protected very good. I didn't have the chance to get in yet. But we did get all the passwords of the students.
tl;dr
We do it for fun, not for changing settings/doing bad stuff.
I have never seen anybody who found it out, so I think the chances of detection are pretty slim. At least, at the schools where I've been.
Edit: Yes, you can demote other admins at that point.
I installed Chromium on the control terminal for the library and everybody flipped. shiz.
Our network is set up funny. Just like the droid army, in fact. We have a main computer in IT, and several sup-computers to control areas. Those sub-controllers control all the computers in the area. Lose one, lose the step below.

Because potatoes have never been something so valued to mankind.
1. Make an admin account with CMD.
2. Do your work.
3. Delete the account. No one will ever knew it existed.
In our school cmd is locked down. Easy way to get around this, make a simple .bat file, and you are golden. Also, the BIOS asks for a password, but if you just press enter you can get in. Security fail.

Yes, the code for the bat is this:
@echo off
command.com
pause
Paste that in notepad and save it as cmd.bat.

Any CLI experience I've had has been on a *NIX based system. Thanks, that's good to know!
I knew it was possible because I've seen others do it. The BIOS thing is just unexplainable though.
Here's a challenge for ye...
My school have locked down cmd, control panel and /all/ executables not on the C drive (including USB sticks).
Access to the C drive is locked.
How would I, simply for hack value, disable these?
Hmm, Have you tried seeing if you can boot off a CD / USB stick? Try that plus a Linux Distro designed for hacking.
In my school district you can be expelled for doing that. And while it may not be the same for your school, risking suspension, expulsion, or some other (probably severe) punishment just to play a video game is pretty ridiculous.
But if you really want to, no one's stopping you, I guess....

..... thats not how you secure a system. who thought of that ?
Probably the same monkeys who decide what corses are mandatory. In my computers class, I already have more experience than the teacher. And he can't give me more advanced stuff because he doesn't know any.
