Now that we have had a few days to play RDR2, what are your first impressions?
I think the game is beautiful. The organic storytelling is great. The animations are some of the best I have seen.
Unfortunately, I am also quite bored playing it. The traversing is a little much, but also expected early on in an open world game. There is a lot of back and forth slowly on horseback. Most of the time you can not sprint because it is forcing a conversation which is obviously needed to tell a story. Everything is a time suck. Skinning animals looks realistic but I don't need to see it EVERY time. I'd like to be able to skip some of the mundane animations but this game is going for as much realism as possible. I see Fast Travel is there, I just probably need to open it up as the story progresses. The game is also pretty easy. The auto aim makes it very easy, not to mention the ability to slow time and mark your spots. I've definitely died a few times but still not very challenging.
I did find myself playing poker with Lenny and John Marston for about an hour which was really cool to hear the back and forth dialog. Side games are entertaining and the ability to converse with all the NPCs is neat. This will add many hours of game time. Not sure if that is a good thing yet considering I am the type of person to play mini games like Gwent from Witcher 3 for days.
Still have not played enough to really judge, but my first impressions are mostly positive. I may go back to Minecraft sooner than expected though. How do you feel about the game so far?
