Anyone else playing any of the Paradox 4X games? I'm currently playing Europa Universalis 3 as Japan, and Hearts of Iron III as Republican Spain, and I'm considering buying Victoria 2 (and of course East vs. West when it comes out).
For those who have been living under a rock with only Call of Duty for company the past few years, the 'Paradox games' are incredibly deep 4X strategy games that allow you to play as, litterally, any country in the world. Each game focuses on its own time period, and has its own emphasis -- for example, Hearts of Iron focuses on the second world war, and thus has a heavy emphasis on warfare.
It took me a little while to get into these games, but after watching quill18's Let's Plays on YT, I knew I had to give them another chance. Love them to death now.
My EU3 game as a Japanese province isn't going to well (will possibly have to restart as I'm losing more and more ground ), but I just won the Spanish civil war as Republican Spain in HOI3 .
I've been casually playing Europa Universalis 3 off and on since the Steam Christmas sale. I chose Bavaria for my campaign; it's challenging since there are a lot of countries nearby and thanks to alliances and various proclaimations, any small conflict can escalate into a major European conflict which I'd be in the middle of. I'm especially wary of Austria and Alsace, both of whom have accumulated quite a bit of territory through conquest. Good times. I've also made Bavaria into a trading and Papal powerhouse through various policies, though I think I'll need to curtail my inflation soon.

Sounds like something that's way over my head . I've got enough trouble playing as Norway .
So I've been playing a campaign of Crusader Kings 2 as a Venitian patrician family. Over the course of the campaign, Venice (under one of my dude's leadership) decided to become a vassal of the Byzantine Empire (mostly for protection), afterwhich my family aquired two counties through conquest and I've granted Baronies to several members of my family to stay within the demense limit.
So here's the part that confounds me; my current patrician was elected to Serene Doge (instead of Despot as some of his predecessors had, I'm assuming handing out some baronies had something to do with the title change) and I decided to take a look at his wife's character page and noticed something odd about her title:
Why is she King Laura?
Shouldn't a woman have the title of queen or something?

The King title is a glitch, the reverse happens as well. Despot/Serene Doge is cultural- Italians are Serene Doge, but the title changes for other cultures.
Anyway, I've been having a lot of fun with CK2- it's fun when your new ******* is simultaneously your daughter and granddaughter.
Yeah, CK2 goes on sale quite often. I took advantage of the most recent sale to pick up the newer expansions I was missing (Old gods, Sons of Abraham, Rajas of India).

I'm thinking of doing a Leon playthrough in CKII, are saves going to be transferable to EU4 like they are now with 3?
