We recommend waiting a couple months but there is nothing to stop you from ignoring that
And the recommendation is because if you just got denied, nothing is going to change in the day or so it takes you to retype your application and submit it again.
Chances are, you were not denied for your application but for something else. Try (on your own) to figure out why and try to improve before applying again (which could easily take a few months, if not more).

I am thinking of applying, because I feel it would be fun and contribute to the Minecraft Forums in a way I cannot currently, but I'm not sure if I should. I like the forums and want to help improve them, but there are already a lot of moderators out there, and I can't be sure whether I would be good at it. Any ideas?

We are looking for professional and mature acting users that are active on the Minecraft Forums to apply. Their hasn't been any intention on not hiring anymore moderators. We will be hiring new ones until citricsquid or PuyoDead says so....
We are looking for professional and mature acting adults that are active on the Minecraft Forums to apply.
A little correction here, we're not looking for professionals, you don't have to have prior experience. You don't have to be an adult to apply, and being mature is very much different from acting mature.

Well the Staff can only find so much bad content, so when they also have regular users to help out with the Forums it is a lot easier for the staff to moderate. If you can be on this forum about 5 hours or more a week, and you make good posts in the section(s) you are applying for, I would recommend you apply for moderator
What comes first, July 23rd or July 27th
Within 5 mouths, you will have a reply. So sit back and relax!

It's in the OP (which I hope you read)...
There is hardly anything to moderate here so the admins do it.
The Forum Admins lock and hide posts, but we report them to be moved or whatever.
Their is nothing stopping from applying again, even if you have been denied.
