But the restrictions are only on the server, not the forums. If we only allowed servers that allow everyone to join, then we would be making restrictions, since people wouldn't be able to post the server they want.

The main point I want to justify is gender segregation. Mainly due to the fact we can't change our gender. If someone want's to make a Girl's Only server, or a Boy's Only server then do it privately and open advertisement on the MCF about this server shouldn't be allowed. I mainly want just a rule added that will address Gender Segregation on minecraft servers. It's not like you couldn't put Girl-Friendly Community or, in your rules put, Maybe be Inappropriate for the Opposite Gender, something along those lines, but downright Gender Segregation, with no reasoning is sickening.
So here's my word on the issue, as I told another moderator the night before:
<Rogue_> *** ?
<***> Do we allow female/male only servers?
<Rogue_> sure
<***> k
<Rogue_> not like they'll be successful or even possibly enforced
<***> thanks.
<Rogue_> if he's asking for private info though, then the thread needs to be removed
<***> Yeah
<***> kk
Female only / Male only isn't much different than some other requirements. I don't see anyone complaining about 18-or-older servers (which, I personally had been denied for in the past). Sure, maybe you want to play there, but if the general consensus of the server's player base is that they don't want you there, it wouldn't be that great anyhow.
The sole exception I make here is that of asking for personal information (i.e. "What's your name? Where do you live?"). This is a forum for everyone, including children, and endorsing people asking for your personal information really isn't okay.

The main reason I don't like it though is it's something that's never going to happen for you unless you get a gender change of course rofl. I mean sure, you'll grow up and eventually get into those age restricted servers, but you never going to get into a gender restricted server, if your the opposite gender as it allows. This is my only problem is that you essentially cant do it. Isn't minecraft all about freedom of expression, I still dumbfounds me that the MCF allows these types of servers. I can understand EVERY OTHER type of segregation, Age, Building Skill, ect, but Gender is just something you cant change! I mean it's not like I will ever want to play on that type of server, but regardless some may want to.

A few things:
1) It isn't segregation. People don't want to deal with people that identify under a set of qualifying traits. Is it fair? Not necessarily, but it's their choice.
2) Their server is their own choice on how they wish to run it. If someone wants to run a girls-only server, then that is their choice. If you aren't able to join it, then that's too bad, maybe you should find another server.
3) Since we're being technical on terms, there's a difference between sex and gender. Sex is your biological makeup, whether you are male or female in reality. Gender is a much more abstract stance on it and deals with gender identity and personal characteristic that build up to your outward gender. You can be biologically male and be a female in gender, and vice-versa.
Obviously, that's not what these servers are going for, but the point remains that this is really just an obscure issue that doesn't really harm anyone. This kind of thing exists in numerous places from places of work (The US military just recently allowed women to be able to enlist into combat), to small things like boys who make a club as children and have the classic "no girls allowed".
Overall, my point is that these servers really have no method of enforcing their own rule, and it is ridiculous to elevate something as simple as "girls only" to something as radical as discrimination of gender. In an odd sense, they aren't excluding one group, they're only including one. If there were three genders, this would be a different issue but that reaches an entirely new level of obscure that I won't even go into it.

In all honesty, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it if a good reason was supplied.
There is no such thing as true "freedom of expression". Case in point, this thread's purpose is to silence a server from advertising because it has a certain rule.
They don't need a good reason. Their server, their rules. Simple as that.
However, I am curious about your "good reason" to take your time to hinder this server's recruitment instead of accepting the fact you (and many other members) will never be able to join it. Why does this need to be blown out of proportion? Why not consider joining another of the hundreds- nay, THOUSANDS of other servers with no requirements or (or ones that you meet) out there instead? What makes this server so special that you stall your search for a server because you either MUST join it or prevent others from joining it?
It's not about the server, it's about the principle friend.
I think everyone needs to remember that the server is a privately owned entity. The owner/players are the ones who pay for it's upkeep. They have a right to make whatever rules they want. As the owner and funder of a privately owned server you can make whatever rules you feel like, whether that's only allowing one kind of gender/race/religion, it's still their right. I think people should just move on with their lives as this is just a Minecraft server, nothing more. So what if you're a guy and can't join?
If you really feel so bad about a girls only server, go make a guys only server. Problem solved?
Every single reply here is posting saying "It's their server, they can do what we want". That is just plain common-sense people. No where did the OP say that this thread was aimed to change what they have on their server. I don't even care about the restrictions, just don't promote segregation in a public place. And to everyone who is relating age with gender, that just won't work. Of course, we need age restrictions. You must be 16+ to work here, but do you ever see(Of course in some rare occasions that I won't mention to keep this thread appropriate) you must be female/male to work here? You are pretty much indefinitely screwed at that point. In my opinion, I just don't think a post like that should belong in a forum clearly aimed to provide a user friendly environment for everyone. It will just bring trouble in the long run. It could have been posted anywhere else, like on her website. At least she could have mentioned in her thread that no offence to anyone is intended by the restrictions of the server, or something along those lines. Is there even a valid reason to ban all boys from your server anyways? I know that's off topic, and it's her choice, but I wonder why.
Now, let's not just worry about the girls only part...
I'm worried about how she's getting proof? I believe you guys should take a look into that. Not to mention almost everyone in there has one post(Have you ever thought they might be making alts?). Just another thing to check out. Those are 2 actions breaking forum rules.

Wrong. The OP indicated several times in his post that he felt what was happening on the server was wrong. He even went out as to give the definition of discrimination and point out my in this case it was wrong. He was arguing that discrimination was wrong, not that promotion of discrimination was wrong.
And to everyone who is relating age with gender, that just won't work. Of course, we need age restrictions. You must be 16+ to work here
Wait? First you say associating Real-life situations with a Minecraft server is a bad anology, then you go on and use one yourself to prove your own point and ours wrong? What?

It does create a user-friendly environment! Especially with this girl's post. Girls feel slightly intimidated on public servers, making the majority of the server threads not too friendly, while her thread makes the forum more friendly to girls.
Not to mention almost everyone in there has one post(Have you ever thought they might be making alts?). Just another thing to check out. Those are 2 actions breaking forum rules.
Err I just calculated and the average number of posts per member is around 9.7 posts. And that doesn't mean all of us have around 10 posts. On this thread most people have over 50 posts, a lot of them have a few hundred, and a few them have thousands of posts. That's mostly because it's a discussion thread. Average Minecraft players don't participate in too many discussions like these. They only post when it is relevant to what they're playing, i.e. a server. So it's quite plausible a lot of them only have 1 or a few posts. Remeber, 10 post average, and a lot of members have more than that.

Of course it's wrong. You don't understand what I said. Let me go back to what I said. "No where did the OP say they were intending to change the content of the server". Try to look at the details before you go out of your way to quote me.
Wait? First you say associating Real-life situations with a Minecraft server is a bad anology, then you go on and use one yourself to prove your own point and ours wrong? What?
What? Are you kidding me? Where at all was I trying to make an analogy to a Minecraft server with age? I was doing the exact opposite of what you just said, making a contradiction. I never related the two in any way.

So it makes this place better to have segregation? And you're assuming all girls feel intimidated on public servers? You are making a huge association for everyone there. You can't just assume everyone feels that way, and that's exactly what you're doing. It makes it more friendly for the girls? Why not everyone?

Why calculate the average in this case? Of course 1 or 2 people are going to be real and have a few hundred posts, upping the average. Try using the mode. The mode posts of that thread is 1 post. I can almost guarantee you that at least 1 of those accounts is illegitimate.
Of course it's wrong. You don't understand what I said. Let me go back to what I said. "No where did the OP say they were intending to change the content of the server". Try to look at the details before you go out of your way to quote me.
Okay who's they? I have no idea why you bolded 'change'. As far as I know, it just further proves my point. Be more specific next time.
What? Are you kidding me? Where at all was I trying to make an analogy to a Minecraft server with age? I was doing the exact opposite of what you just said, making a contradiction. I never related the two in any way.
Well you made it sound like age segregation was okay, and that gender restriction was not okay. Suddenly cause age restrictions apply in the workspace, we can apply it to Minecraft servers! And we can't use the slumber party anology cause it's IRL. What?

Just to be clear I used the average of all members across the entire forum, not just that one thread. I checked the join dates on the 1 post members and most of them were different, all close together but some were a month apart. I alot of the accounts were created in June and July, while the server owner's profile shows she was last active in May. Also, I don't even know why you're arguing this point. Why would she make alt accounts in the first place? This is the first time I've heard of anyone making alt accounts to post on their own server thread.
So it makes this place better to have segregation? And you're assuming all girls feel intimidated on public servers? You are making a huge association for everyone there. True, true, my statement was a bit rash. My point is, it's a needle in a haystack, and judging by the relative popularity of her thread, alot of girls do seem to like it, so... yeah.
There's a very important distinction everyone needs to keep in mind here. How does that server's "segregation" affect you? None, right? And that's because you aren't required to play on that server. It's one private server out of thousands. Keeping that in mind, this really isn't segregation as everyone is claiming it to be. Look at things like "white only" bathrooms and drinking fountains. Those were in public places, and directly affected the people who were there. Things like same sex couples being denied visiting rights in hospitals, and the ability to marry. Those people are directly affected, and they have no choice in the matter. This server is an optional choice with a restriction put in place by the owner. They have every right to do so. If anything, it's a bit rude to compare people fighting for civil rights to a video game server's choice of who can play there.
As for us "endorsing" the server, well, of course we are going to allow it. I really see no reason why we wouldn't. We're not "endorsing segregation", we're allowing a server to make a thread like any other.
Now, let's not just worry about the girls only part...

Oh I totally agree with you at this point, the fact that the OP is asking for proof is totally wrong. Asking for personal information is a bit dis concerning and the Mods/Admins should take a look into that if they want to leave it up.

I kinda agree too. It's not completely wrong, I understand is she wants proof that you are a girl, but if you need to turn over personal info that I think it should be looked into.
Thanks everyone for posting! Just a fyi, I'm not intending to start a flame war, I just was simply expressing my opinion on a pressing matter. Apologies if this is getting out of hand D:
oh

Still a loose definition. If 20 builders showed up when we needed none, I'd say no to all of them.
