So, I still don't really under why the admins on this forum consider discussing H as spam, but discussing creepers (who are no more real than H) as not spam. I agree with Kennbeck... it does seem a bit hypocritical to me (no disrespect intended).
I think we are confusing the concept of "real" here. If you want to get right down to it almost nothing in Minecraft is "real". I can't recall the last time I got passed on the sidewalk by a blocky guy carrying a pickaxe .
We are talking about real in the context of the game itself, What is and isn't actually in the game. Creepers we all know are actually in the game lord knows enough of them have blown up behind me. Herobrine however is not, and never was. Mojang added the references to him in the changelog as a joke in response to a CreepyPasta story. That is very well documented to be the case.
I realize that although the idea of him is interesting and mysterious especially to kids the whole purpose of the forums is to share ideas and information, not misinformation and known to be false rumors. Should the threads just be removed without explanation? Perhaps not, but we can't in good faith allow them to continue and spread false information either.
@Admins and Mods: is there a way to add a feature, program, or mod that when a member types anything about H in the search field or when they click post reply/thread it's ran through some check thingy (lol, I don't know all the computer techie stuff lol srry) that will instantly send them to the H link on wiki ( Click Me ) that way we're freeing the forum up of the H topics and answers thier question or lets them know that this forum is H free, lol in a sense. just a suggestion is all.

I think part of the issue, problem, what have you, that is not being addressed completely here is that the XBLA part of the forum is way to general and lacking in places to actually post correctly. I mean we as a community are lumped in as a sub-forum to the game which we all know is the PC version. Most people both long time users and new users (an educated guess here) don't post outside of the XBLA category. If our community actually had a few more sub categories of its own then we maybe would cut down on some of these issues. A lot of the other sub forums are packed full of the PC players that leave comments that do not always help the XBLA players and when pointing this out to them, we then get told to go post in our sub category; thus, leading to a vicious cycle of where do I post.
Also, a point that has been brought up here is the aspect of mini-modding, which on a whole most of us do not have a problem with but it is how it is handled by the mini-modders. Most of them are just down right rude and really do nothing to help out the possible offender other than saying that you will be locked, or this is redundant or go use the search bar. As others mentioned why not post a helpful link. Not to solely just pick on SynderGuy, but seriously dude, you do come off as rude and a know it all, and many times in your posts you really do not provide anything useful in your comments. Mini-modders need to remember that there are varying age groups on here. Plus, SynderGuy, you mentioned that there is no age requirement to be a Mod, and I think that this is a major problem. Not saying young people cannot be mature but for the most part it is few and far between that we find mature 13 year old people that know and understand how to interact with older people. This is no way a dig at you, just going by my experience of your posts in here and on other posts you have made.
I have tried to use the search function and let's just say it leaves a lot to be desired, but as another poster mentioned that is the nature of search algorithms. So again, instead of just posting something rude, like don't you know how to use a search, leave the person something useful. Being helpful and kind goes a long way in the world.
Anyhoo, I think I have babbled on too long here, but that is just my two cents. Thanks to all the Mods that have helped to clear up some of the misunderstandings here. Happy digging!

Mini-modding is supposed to look like this:
Johnny sees a person posting something in the wrong section, so Johnny reports the post and then can optionally leave a message like this:
This is perfectly fine. Johnny was polite, reported the post so that a moderator could handle it, and overall was just being helpful. Now then...
Bobby sees someone advertising their Map outside the Maps section. Bobby doesn't report very often, so instead, he goes on the thread and posts:
lol only someone with a fail map would advertise it everywhere else
Now then, Bobby:
✓ Was unhelpful
✓ Didn't report
✓ Was rude
Which is not okay. If you aren't respectful and helpful when reminding a member of the rules on the forum, and don't report an offending post need be, then that isn't really okay or fair to the person you're addressing.
I apologize for those who believe I am rude, I am trying my best. I also must correct a few of you on something. I do not say "Don't you know how to use a search bar?" The last time there was a post about the search bar I posted something like this "Most newcomers do not see the search bar, but I suggest you use it before starting a thread just to be sure"
I didn't mean to be rude if it did, I will try my best to lighten things up. (:

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
The staff of the Minecraft Forums, who make and enforce the rules on the forums, and the staff of Mojang, who make the update logs and update the game, are entirely different groups of people. We have no control over what they put in the game, and what they put in their changelogs.
I think we are confusing the concept of "real" here. If you want to get right down to it almost nothing in Minecraft is "real". I can't recall the last time I got passed on the sidewalk by a blocky guy carrying a pickaxe .

By continuing with the references to him, they are intentionally continuing to perpetuate his existence in the game in the minds of all the new kids who read those references. They even project an uncertainty that they have removed him. By innuendo, the references make him as "real" as creepers, particulary in the minds of younger children. It is because they see those references in the game that the kids have any curiosity about him at all. If the real idea was to eliminate from the game completely, the references would stop. The insider joke would stop. This site discusses the fake reality that Mojang and 4J opt to generate... and they are continuing to opt to generate an essence of H. That he cannot be mentioned or discussed on this site at virtually any level is intentionally censoring what is currently a part of the game. As Kennbeck suggested, it's hypocritical.
The "Do not post about Herobrine" rule is a specific example of the rule
"Do not post hoaxes or intentionally post misleading/inaccurate information"
Herobrine is fine as long as you recognise the fact that he does not exist in-game.
The reason it's disallowed, is that we don't want people being misled into thinking he actually exists in-game. This is why threads of Herobrine sightings are removed. Someone who doesn't know better might come across the thread and think "Hey! Herobrine is real, I'll try and find him in-game" or whatever. While the people in the thread might know that they are making their own stories about a fictional character, the reader might not.
It's not that we are specifically picking on Herobrine, we just do not wish users to be misled.

Theevilpplz is so fabulous, hetrosexual men turn bi when he passes by.
Well I will say I think the mods do a great job at keeping the site kid friendly and I have read more posts on here than I care to admit to, but have only really seen something offensive like twice. Both times being a user using the f-word and those dissappeared pretty quickly. Thats fantastic in my opinion considering how diverse the age group is on this site and yes I know the f-bombs might not have come from a kid anyway. So great job to the mods on that one. If I had kids they could go on here whenever.
The only thing I was a tiny bit annoyed with was the marked for redundancy posts and thats already been addressed. As for us I would challenge all of us users to knock off the constant "when is this update coming out" threads. Yes I know I got a little impatient about 1.8.2 too. I really wanted that one, lol! Either that or maybe just have one thread designated just for us to whine and complain about the current update not being out. That thread would be quite popular, lol!

That's pretty much what happened in the PE section when the update threads hit critical mass. It's been working out really well, actually.

Well, at least you're better than 1 certain moderator (not giving names) who gave me an infraction for giving advice.
Some topics I've seen locked, reported, infracted, or deleted because the mod thought they were bad, not because they broke the rules. That is completely unacceptable.

I know I've said this before but I bears repeating. If you ever feel that a moderator action was taken in error you have every right to ask for an explanation. You can contact the moderator in question or a forum administrator and ask for information or to explain why.
The staff is only human and we can make mistakes just like anyone else. If you think a mistake was made ask about it.

If that is the case then contact and admin for the section. We are a volunteer staff so at times it may take a day or so for them to reply at times but if you aren't getting an answer at all then contact an admin.

Most things xbox/pocket edition-related things should go in the other platforms subforums. The exception to this I believe is the pc edition support section here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/175-pocket-edition-support/
