This is good... very good. I don't believe using BBcode to bypass the filter will be a problem. Although I do have one question:
I received a warning for swearing BEFORE the ban was put in place. Now that the ban was turned into a filter, can I have that warning removed? It would only be fair since those rules are no longer existing. And that they didn't exist either when I posted the word.
If you have a question or issue with the infraction you received, respond to the PM that was sent to you containing the details of your infraction and the moderator will have it reversed if necessary.
unfortunately there's no proper way for me to do this, so yeah, it has problems like that it would be nice if people were just happy not swearing, but nope! So yeah, we suffer from the s[profanity="cunt"]horpe problem.
See I think that's been the issue for everyone who has had an issue. People really don't like being told how to talk, yeah you made a work around so it pissed them off a little less. One can make the argument "My forum, I'll do what I want!" about the rules being however the administrators prefer it to be and there is no first amendment rights on the internet; but what you guys should keep in mind is it still is the internet. It's all fine and dandy that you want it to be family friendly here and all but again it's, the, internet! Y'know the place with all the free porn on it?
Just trying to point out why I presume lots of people got all riled up about it. I for one do cuss in a normal conversation and it hardly makes me a less intelligent person. Other than not wanting five year olds to repeat what they hear I don't see what the big fuss is about people cussing. It hardly makes you less educated if you say [profanity="fuck"] once in a while and it's not your job to make sure other people don't have to teach their kids what not to say. Just putting in my two cents worth.
or can i just type it and will the censor filter it out for people with the censor on?
type whatever you want, the filter does the rest. again, the profanity bbcode is a horrible hack to get around the supposed need people have for swearing.
The only remaining question I have is this. So when you've made it more "family friendly" which we all know means "kid friendly" and you only have little tykes running around here, what happens when some five year olds get into a heated argument about Sponge bob vs My little pony and start calling each other "doody heads"? Are you going to make bringing up TV shows against the rules because it might be controversial? Maybe any language that could be perceived as offensive?
Just wondering how far you think telling people how to keep it all nice nice in here will go. Little kids can be ass holes without swearing and then I suppose you could call him calling the other one a "mean name" flaming, but still. Just pointing out that it's a sticky bumpy road you've decided to walk down in the future and I'm waiting for the Yu gi oh, pokemon, magic the gathering arguments to start now since you'll only have a younger age group in here from now on.
Citric, I think that the filter isn't working the way it's supposed to be like how the ban system doesn't work properly with me either. Are there certain members that just glitch out on the system like that? Maybe because of a certain letter combination in the name that weirds it out or something.
So would we care to explain why the filter just up and removes almost all profanity now instead of filtering it out? I mean it was buggy before, IE still filtering it out even though I told it not to, but now it's removing it entirely, even in PMs. Any reason for that? Hmmmm?!

What happened to the optional filter? Is this Sesame Street now?
I understand trying to appeal to children, or rather wanting to appeal to their parents, but appealing only to children seems kind of silly. At least to me it does.

Are you suggesting that only children want a profanity free environment and any adult would automatically leave a forum that doesn't allow profanity?

Not at all. What I'm suggesting is most adults wouldn't allow themselves to be bothered by a little profanity, if they don't want to use it themselves then that's their decision. So by process of elimination the only people who may find it offensive would be over protective parents.
Most adults however would leave yes. They, much like I, don't like being told how they are allowed to speak when it's not hurting anyone. We were done with that when we got out of school. If it's not threatening someone and it's not a verbal attack on someone then I don't see the problem with it unless as I previously stated it's to cater to the parents of children. Am I wrong in that presumption? I seem to recall that being your initial reason for the filter.
I have a question. What if you use custom swear words? Also, what of you misspell a swear word?

because you're not supposed to swear. If you do, :(, we would rather you didn't.
What do you mean "custom swear words"? If you mispell and it seems intentional you will be infracted for avoiding the censor.
And I generally make characters in RP that have in their character to swear.
I can't play as a greaser-esque guy with "Well, gosh darn it!" I need to have him say, "[profanity="fuck"] you."
My DeviantArt, so sexy
I think it's a bug, because I've experienced this a few times as well.
Dude, I have over 1700 posts, probably over 1400 of them from the politics section, and I have sworn probably twice. You really don't need them.

because profanity is banned.
