I noticed that in their latest round of spams, there was no link. Either it got flagged by the forum software and removed from the spam post, or the spammers were too stupid to include one.
I'd like to think it is the former, yet Russell's Corollary from the Rules of Spam would say otherwise: "Never underestimate the stupidity of spammers."
I kind of wish I had a VM (Virtual Machine) I could run to see where this scam ultimately leads to. It's not something I am willing to try on my main Windows installation. Of course if all they give you is a fake gift code generator, it should be a simple matter to upload it to Jotti or VirusTotal to see what nasties the scammers may have hidden in it.
looks like the admins and moderators don't care any more about the giftcode scammer !
There is nothing been done to stop it ! And even after reporting take hours be for the scam threads been deleted !
Make restriction for registering , or like some one already said , minimum 5 - 10 posts for new member are required , be for he can create new thread !
There is a large difference between not caring and not wanting to screw up the forums for new members
New accounts can make 10 posts.
There is email verification.
There is a captcha.
What about people that make accounts that need support? If they need 10 posts before they can make a thread, that means that they would have to post in 10 different threads, stay on topic so they aren't warned, wait 24 hours, then post what they need help with. Would you enjoy the forums if your joined needing help? Simple answer is no, you wouldn't, you'd go find somewhere else to get help. What about people making texture packs and want to share it? Mods? Maps? What about people who have a server? What about people who have a question?
It isn't that we don't care about the spam, it is that we care more about the members.
These are human spammers. Almost anything automated to prevent them, they have find a way around.

It doesn't take hours, 1 at the most. There are only about 8 people who can see profile reports so they can take a bit longer to get to (which is why we prefer people to report the thread/post instead then the speed at which they are taken care of increases exponentially)
A capctha for every post? I'm sorry, but did you even think that through? I want you to imagine that you have to type out a capctha for all 1130 of your posts. Besides, captcha is easily bypassed.
For what we can do, vs. limiting everyone else's experience here, we're doing a ton. There's quite a few of us sitting here watching over the boards looking for these giftcode posts at any given time. For your claims of us not doing anything, you have to realize that you're not seeing a LOT of the ones that are posting. Most of the ones I get aren't even reported yet. Sometimes they haven't even been viewed yet. In short, if we really had given up, and just let them run, you're probably be seeing about 20 times more than you are.
I have a feeling that this and the exploit in the mc servers are connected...
On an on topic note, the only reason I can see as to why their posting it in the mods page is because it's most frequently viewed. If they were to post it in... The game support? Then they'd be doing some actual damage. Although it is quite annoying, let alone evil. Most of all I agree with Daniellestarr's points, that it is quite hard to stop because, really, other sites don't care.

Free + Crabs + Ability to trample/suffocate opponents in Cortex Command = Free Bombs.
Someone said in one of the replies to one of the spams that the scam leads to malware which will try to steal your account infomation.
If that is the case, it would make the link to the server exploit more plausible.
There has been a fake Minecraft giftcode generator out since around April; that may include malware and be what you would get as a result of completing the scammer's survey.
Those spammers don't give up, do they? Looking at the hot topics for the Minecraft Mods forum, it showed one of the free Minecraft giftcode spams. But when I went to the actual forum, all of the spam topics were gone.
This is also happening on YouTube with Minecraft videos:
"I just got Minecraft for free on
*********.***"
and
"FREE MINECRAFT GIFT CODES, NO SURVEY"
This is usually a video or comment with a link to a survey that asks you for your phone, your address, and your name. So creepy ._.
Also it's happening for PORN. What the hell people?!
"WATCH (someone's name here) FLAUNT FOR BILLONARE!

Wow, this is happening everywhere. Spread awareness!

But when the spammer bypasses 10 posts, what now? Plus, the spammers can always post spam in other threads.
I think banning the URL would be the best, but another good thing would be putting stickies in each thread stating that "This is a scam, and participating in such a thread is spam. These are not real and etc."
It consumes time. After you report it, another thread is made. After you report THAT one, a new one comes in, much like an endless loop.
But with ONE click (Okay two clicks) the account is banned, posts are wiped and they have to reregister again and start over. We can clear them faster than they spawn thus why they usually attack in waves. With members reporting the threads the moderators can request flags faster and the spam halted dead in its tracks. >: D
I'm just a Minecraft player that likes to give my opinion. Nothing special to see here.

Spamming is also a violation of their ToS - TinyURL will disable their links if reported to them.

Venit, quessit, induravit.
If we act soon enough, maybe they'll be driven off to some other forum to bother.
Click if you can
Hopefully the ROBLOX forums. (Mods please don't hurt me)
