Sounds like management is getting screwed then, because what critic just said is that even though curse owns them, they aren't making much damned money from the site they are staffing, and you know curse is probably rolling in the dinero.
No I'm not going to disperse. Not until this website is fixed. Really, citric? "If they exist"? I don't think you look at this place as much as people are lead to think.
PS. The forum took an entire minute to load before I posted this.

Not nearly as much as you think. Bandwidth costs alone for this site are obscene, and that's not even touching on the massive overhaul to the server network SPECIFICALLY because MCF was having problems - that was ludicrously expensive. Still, it was done to make this forum run better. Having said that, when is the last time you remember a 502 or 503?
That's true, but if Curse never even took control in the first place, there would not be the need to pay off all the employees Curse brought in.
According to you, WedTM may have been incorrect on many issues in his blog post, but if a single banner ad at the bottom of the page was generating $12k a month, the website must be taking in an obscene amount of money now, with the entire background being a massive advertisement. I think this website has the most ads I've ever seen.
If curse didn't take control in the first place, there probably wouldn't be a forum, let alone a central place for thousands of fans of the game to gather. As WedTM mentioned (quite honestly, in that regard), they were not able to manage the forums themselves when it started to grow.
Although Curse annoys the hell out of me with the regular down time and constant ads, I will say they added some cool new content, like the news page, and the video portal stuff.

The forum costs money to run because it's popular, not because Curse owns it. The ownership of the forum does not have any relation to the costs of running it... yes the website is making an "obscene" amount of money if you're a teenager with no understanding of what things cost in the real world, but things cost a lot. How much do you think it costs to run MCF?
PS. Please don't make your messages a different colour to the forum default.

I'm not sure what you mean? Nobody is getting screwed. Curse own the forum, it belongs to curse, myself and some other members of staff (PuyoDead, Sacheverell, Dook The First) are directly employed by Curse to manage the forum. I don't have any ownership of the forum, Curse own it, this is just my job.
Ugh, this subject has been touched on SO much recently, it's starting to get old.
First off, we do NOT have a policy of banning people who discuss or use any ad blocking software. If that HAS happened, then it should be brought to the FA's attention, and we'll rectify it.
Secondly, there are many misconceptions about how ads work. First off, we show ads that are contextual, meaning, they are supposed to be geared towards things that you guys are interested anyways. Obviously this is not always true, but we try really hard to fix those ones! There is ways for us to detect ads being blocked, like WakoMoose has mentioned above, but there is ways that we could also ban/block users by blocking them. A simple javascript callback could easily ban an IP if the ad didn't show up.
This being said, we DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT do any of these things, nor do we have any intention of implementing them in the future.
The next thing you guys need to realize is that we are not some magical entities. We are normal users like you. Citric and I were around before Curse, we are the same people who've always been in charge. We hate obtrusive ads just as much as you. In our case some of our ads are automated from the provider, and they occasionally break the rules. If that happens, feel free to take a screen shot and send it to either myself or Citricsquid, and we'll get it taken care of.
It takes a lot of time energy and support from our volunteers to keep this site running, ads help pay for the servers, and employee's that make this site run. It's naive to think that we could do this for free, that's down right impossible with over 100 million pageviews we serve on this site every month.
If you choose to run AdBlock, or a similar program, that's fine. That's your choice. Just be informed as to why we run ads. We have families to feed, and servers to pay for.
our adverts have not changed since he made this post. Why would he say that if it was a lie and he supposedly has integrity? So either he just lied to every member here in that post, or his blog post is a lie. Pick one.
WedTM's bias is that he's angry that he was fired and is looking for anything he can use against curse to show how bad they are.
On the flip side, curse is a money making company. Of course they're going to add ad banners. I can understand that. Why? Because if you are in the business of making money, you're going to maximize your profits anyway you can. Also, you're going to improve the website so the community stay's happy and the advertisers who are targeting the community stay happy.
I've used mc forums ever since the first day beta came out. I have noticed the 502's and the 503's. But ever since curse has been running the show, it's been fine. That's my two cents.
Although Curse annoys the hell out of me with the regular down time and constant ads, I will say they added some cool new content, like the news page, and the video portal stuff.
I don't believe we have had any downtime in quite a while, our uptime has been excellent for the last 6 months.
And saying this forum took an entire minute to load?
I'd say that's probably your internet, takes me about 2-5 seconds. And no, I'm not put on a special server for the forums, if there is a lot of load on the servers, I have to deal with it just as much as you do.

Is your mind welded in a metal box? The minecraft forum is the ONLY website in my entire bookmarks list (80+ bookmarks) and takes an entire minute to load. Everything else loads in a few seconds.
It's not "My internet". That's just a convenient excuse.

Then why is it, even if I'm not logged in, it takes me 5 seconds?

I don't see why people are saying it takes a minute to load this page. For me, its like 2 seconds.
And Your talking to a guy who lives out in the country, has a laptop, had it for over a year, and downloads tons of mods everyday, It takes about an hour for a minute long video on Youtube to load!
But back on subject, I'm glad Citric Came in and cleared the truth. I almost believed it.. : P

If Curse didn't step in there wouldn't be a forum...

Main point, Wed was fired for a specific reason, not everyone will like curse(not saying I do). And you just have to get on with it.

It's really odd is what it is. Unless of course, I'm on some kind of list for reduced bandwidth because some admin didn't like me.
