IS THIS REALLY against the rules...? It seemed to be the biggest problem was MY CAPS...

Caps is annoying and childish, so do avoid it unless you have to use it.

Still, the way most people's brains work is they see a drastic difference between it and normal writing, so the brain naturally puts emphasis on those words while we "read aloud" in our heads, and it comes out as screaming/yelling. If you want to put emphasis, just use bold or underline, it's less obtrusive, though still annoying if used excessively.
Well, if you were to write the sentence, "Look, it's another one of those posts", the word those is emphasized and makes you think, what do you mean by those? Having a word in bold makes it look more like a highlight for instruction or importance.
In any case, the fact of the matter is, all caps is yelling.
Edit: After thinking about what I have written, You are mostly right in this situation. The original post is arguing the importance of his words and trying to justify using caps. In his case, bold would have probably been the correct choice.

what makes your point more important than others? by posting, you are voicing your opinion, you don't need to write it in caps, that like me posting in giant letters to get my point across
