Now that this is out of the way, I'd like to mention that after reading up the restructure, and reading the first post of this thread, which had properly outlined what was wrong with it in an non-hostile and polite method, I pretty much disagree with the restructuring and took the liberty to bring up this thread to some staff members that are/were online at the moment and do not like it as well. Citricsquid himself will be talking to BluesteelAU later about this and we will be keeping an eye on this thread. No, we are not out to sabotage you, because that would be counter-productive. No, we are not plotting a massive conspiracy under your feet, because that would be boring. Just because we don't say anything doesn't mean we're not talking about it right now in a hidden place somewhere that will never be mentioned, ever. And in the end, those who constantly shout only end up deaf, while those who always remain quiet have the sharpest of ears.
In the meantime while you guys wait here about our next actions (especially the ones shouting THIS SUCKS RAWRGH THE ADMINS ARE HORRIBLE RAWRGH), feel free to link, discuss, and talk about alternatives in the meantime.
It's alright. You've got to understand, though, that sometimes we get frustrated when we feel nobody wants to work with us, and the announcement about how things were going to be restructured in the next couple of days with nobody having asked us for input felt like a slap to the face. Most of us just want somebody to work with us on this, and we're not all opposed to change, we just want the changes to make sense for the different boards. (As previously noted, I only participate in the texture packs board. These changes make little sense for that board. I can't say how much sense they make for everywhere else, however.)
As a side note I'm not sure the texture packs board has enough mods. There's Faust, but I've yet to see anyone else online (perhaps partly because of my schedule), and it seems like there's not enough mods to do the job. Perhaps that should be discussed after this, though.

If I didn't understand, I wouldn've never even bothered seeing this thread. It's all good, I know how you guys feel, but I'm just here to assure you guys your opinions aren't going into naught.
I really hate this. Why can't we post a thread in another section to actually get THEIR attention too? We should NOT be forced to ask trough IRC. You might say that identical threads are a no, no, but in this case i belive it would be for the best. And, if you read the two OPs, they are very different. Feather set it up so that it wouldn't be a direct copy of the other one, which i belive was a good thing to do.
This is all a bit rude towards her i think, and i think that she should be UN-BANNED, but the warning level can stay.
I never say rude things unless I get ticked at something, and in this instance it was never meant to be passed off as rude in any way, shape, or form.
I'll be honest here, I haven't been able to relocate the locked threads and re-read them (mostly because another staffer must've dealt with them and they're probably buried deep now) so I'll take your word for it. Personally I still think you would've been better off going onto IRC since it's more of a realtime enviroment there and you'd gain more momentum with it, but all I can do is shrug at this and silently file this qualm in my mind to discuss with the staff about this.
These changes will only make it worse for developers and users alike. Here's an example.
I have ten mods. These changes will make each mod have it's own several threads for blahblahblah. So 1 mod = 4~ threads. AND each version of the mod needs these individual threads. I support the current and previous versions of my mods. So..
10 mods, 2 versions supported, and 4 threads per version per mod.
That's 80 threads (10 mods with 8 threads each, 4 for current version and 4 for previous version). I am not ****ing keeping track of 80 threads. This forum is just driving itself into the ground now.
If you're confused and frustrated, imagine how confused and frustrated your users are going to feel. In fact, most of them will probably give up before commenting or downloading out of shear exasperation. And I know that most of us (myself included) live for community feedback. It's what keeps us going. All these changes just alienate our fanbase, and make it much harder to interact with them.
1. These changes are not guaranteed, they are planned but whether or not they happen is entirely based on user feedback. I personally would never let changes be implemented that a large majority of users weren't happy with.
2. These proposed changes have NOTHING to do with curse.

1. Which is why we've been discussing the changes privately and changes are being made to the proposals.
2. Curse own and operate the forums as a company, they employ myself and WedTM to manage the forums, we are in charge of managing the forums on behalf of Curse and we assign moderators and volunteer administrators. Myself and WedTM are Curse, but upper management of Curse did not at any point propose or encourage these suggestions. BlueSteelAU has been assigned to the M&M section, he is in charge of managing that section; he proposed these changes to me and I okayed posting them for users to look at.
Thanks for posting, Citric and Animator!
I'm glad this is all being resolved and everything; drama is too tiring to keep going for a while.
Apologies for any past misunderstandings, it's been pretty frustrating. :tongue.gif:
Yes, what feathers said is pretty darn dead-on. Most of us over at Texture Packs dread that change.

Well perhaps it was just a miscommunication, but it seemed to us that these changes were set in stone, definitely-going-to-happen, rather than something posted up for us to look at and discuss. Hence the uproar.

This is also true. It seemed as though it was inevitably going to happen (judging by the claims that it would be implemented "before 1.8's release" which would mean only a few days) so we got pretty worried and worked up.

You guys (admins, mods, etc) should also gather around and have a look at the thread I posted to the texture pack forum, if you haven't already. We made a lot of very good arguments there as to why these changes are a bad idea.
Many people have been shown this restructure and have liked it. content providers and members alike, this redesign wasn't done over night and not just be me, sure I put it all together but from others input, members , content providers (some big , some small. some mod creators some texture pack makers)
Why the texture pack area (and other areas that now i see don't need them) was to make it a uniform set of areas.. so that a content creator could go from one content type to another and still have the same structure. But now as has been pointed out some areas aren't needed in some sub categories. this is the first I've seen that the bugs area isn't needed (but der it makes sense) in texture packs area
Nearly all that have looked at this document (since about July when it was first drawn up) have liked the subdivision into the mc version areas , to keep the number of replies in the threads down and easier to find things that interest them about that content,(especially in large threads) and with the membership growing here currently 600,000 members+ there will me more and more replys in the content threads
another reason MCversion sub categories are needed is that members are really only interested in the current version for things , not the older versions.
why the separate subareas as in comments/suggestions and about/download is to provide the content authors an area (the about/download) to display their creations without polluting their distribution page with other stuff not related to the packs themselves.
the separate bugs/comments suggestions areas are there so that the members and auhors can go to onbe area to look for comments/suggestions etc without them being polluted with other rubbish (like BUGS.. which has its own area)
I've read your concerns about the restructure of the texture packs area , hows this for a compromise

I'm not sure who you talked to about these changes, but it certainly wasn't anyone I've been able to contact on the forums. Like I said, to everyone we've talked to this has been a complete shock. So perhaps in retrospect you should have posted directly to the texture pack forum so that everyone who makes texture packs would be aware of it and have the ability to comment on it.
Also, dividing the subforms into different resolutions is not a step in the right direction. It has exactly the same effect as before, which is to divide the community. As we stated several times on the protest thread posted to the texture pack forum, most people browse for packs without knowing what they want, and separating the packs into different resolutions will hamper their ability to find something new that they wouldn't have thought of trying before. It will also decrease how much exposure each pack gets, because most members and visitors to the site will not want to have to go check five separate forums everyday just to see what's new in texture packs. And those with no experience with texturepacks will be bewildered by the (to them) meaningless titles.
But above and beyond that, one of our biggest concerns is not rectified in your revised plan-- namely, that having a separate thread for comments not only creates unnecessary threads (which will only clog up the servers), it also hampers the ability of users to interact with the artist and help keep packs bumped to give them the attention they deserve. And frankly, I don't understand what the purpose of such a separation would be. Why have a blank thread for comments, then a link to another thread with the screenshots and download link? There's no point to it, and it creates unnecessary confusion and clutter.
I'm sorry, but those changes are not sufficient, and I'm sure the rest of the texture pack community will agree with me after I post your response to the Texture Artist Union thread.

I am inclined to agree. If everyone's posting in the comment section. how will the about/download post be bumped? How will people see the popular packs?
I agree the size subs aren't needed , i added them in there because it was suggested in the other thread.
1. the split of the about/download area were the content author provides info and download links and informs members of the changes to their content is kept clean. you want your content at the top of the page .. then implement changes to it, update it constantly, the latest updated content will be shown at the top like it should be, for members to see when the content has been updated without having to scroll through maybe pages of topics content packs that hasn't been updated but have had lots of comments about it, with no change to actual content, Members want to see whats the latest updates first, not necessarily the pack that's being talked about all the time. If they want that then they can still get it by looking in the other subsection of comments/suggestions/help.
this way all content packs get equal showing as to when they are last updated , and when they were last commented on.
not just who's pack was commented on last

Thing is though, I only update my pack once every month or so, During the time between updates I release teasers and such of things i'm changing/adding to the pack to get hype up and get more people to find out about my pack... I don't want to have to update everyday just for people to see my pack.
EDIT: and what if a pack is done for a while? What if the artist says "Its perfect until the next update"? That persons pack is then doomed? It's confusing.. What if its an AMAZING pack?
I dont understand the point of the Comments section. We (TEXTURE PACK AUTHORS) are perfectly fine with people commenting in the download thread. That's the whole reason why the thread is there, for people to comment in it. I dont understand the logic behind sending people elsewhere to comment on the same thread...
You're also missing the fact that people will just put their OPs in the comment thread and just completely abandoned the download/info thread as the comment thread will be more likely to be seen on the front page, not to mention that people usually update their packs once or twice a month after they release them, so the pack would stay on the front page for a day and then disappear for a few weeks.
Also, no, as we have thoroughly discussed before, the resolution idea would do nothing but split up the community and it would rise the question of where would packs that fall under multiple categories or none of those categories (8x,2x,etc.) go? There's no need for multiple resolution subforums.
Discussions would include group chats, help questions, tutorials, reviews, etc., and texture packs would include texture packs, collaborations, challanges, cometitions, and anything related to actual texture making. (You wouldn't have to make two actual different threads, in case that wasn't clear)
I really hope you see what we mean when we say 2 separate threads is not needed.
I'm also a bit skeptical about "people" agreeing with your ideas, because pretty much every single popular and active texture maker here said they hated the idea and most of them would probably leave for a new forum...

*yawns*
What uproar?

I can see it from a few different angles (especially now). I waded through the last forum change thingee, I'll wade through whatever comes.
I'm happier about the changes in either of what you posted though Blue (for what it's worth)

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
I am inclined to agree. If everyone's posting in the comment section. how will the about/download post be bumped? How will people see the popular packs?

1. the split of the about/download area were the content author provides info and download links and informs members of the changes to their content is kept clean. you want your content at the top of the page .. then implement changes to it, update it constantly, the latest updated content will be shown at the top like it should be, for members to see when the content has been updated without having to scroll through maybe pages of topics content packs that hasn't been updated but have had lots of comments about it, with no change to actual content, Members want to see whats the latest updates first, not necessarily the pack that's being talked about all the time.

You're also missing the fact that people will just put their OPs in the comment thread and just completely abandoned the download/info thread as the comment thread will be more likely to be seen on the front page, not to mention that people usually update their packs once or twice a month after they release them, so the pack would stay on the front page for a day and then disappear for a few weeks.
Also, no, as we have thoroughly discussed before, the resolution idea would do nothing but split up the community and it would rise the question of where would packs that fall under multiple categories or none of those categories (8x,2x,etc.) go? There's no need for multiple resolution subforums.
What many of us have decided upon is the idea of a discussions forum and a texture pack forum as stated here
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/605413-community-proposal-for-restructuring-the-texture-pack-section/
