There should be a separate section for all the things that are not strictly texture packs, but don't break the packs themselves up into two different threads. It's silly for me to have to babysit two threads, not to mention the fact that you'd have a hundred times more noob mistakes than you do now with that kind of system.
Also, having the things that aren't packs somewhere else would enable the packs to themselves to be more easily searched.
MUCH more easily searched. Another big thing to remember is if this is done... we will lose a lot of the texture packers here. I know I wont host here anymore... I would really hate to see the texture pack community split onto multiple websites.

Yeah, most new users can't even understand simple concepts such as uploading images (they try to link to their harddrives, poor souls), I highly doubt they'd understand this new and improved thread structure.
With all the added chaos and confusion that change would cause, another issue would be that we wouldn't have enough mods to watch out for errors! We've got Faust, he's doin' well, and Ms_Britten (i think?), but I doubt that's even enough for the current layout.

I agree the size subs aren't needed , i added them in there because it was suggested in the other thread.
1. the split of the about/download area were the content author provides info and download links and informs members of the changes to their content is kept clean. you want your content at the top of the page .. then implement changes to it, update it constantly, the latest updated content will be shown at the top like it should be, for members to see when the content has been updated without having to scroll through maybe pages of topics content packs that hasn't been updated but have had lots of comments about it, with no change to actual content, Members want to see whats the latest updates first, not necessarily the pack that's being talked about all the time. If they want that then they can still get it by looking in the other subsection of comments/suggestions/help.
this way all content packs get equal showing as to when they are last updated , and when they were last commented on.
not just who's pack was commented on last
I'm not interested in maintaining two separate but similar threads because you'd like for it to be more like planetminecraft. This is a forum, let it be a forum.
Guys, at this point it's been brought down to two sub-boards, and it seems much more reasonable. I'm not saying you should stop debating your point, I'm just thinking it's childish to keep mentioning how many people are going to leave at this point. We're communicating with the administration. I thought the big deal was the lack of communication, but I guess anything other than exactly what you want is completely wrong?
Also, little note. If we need to include the last update date in our thread title, can it be day/month/year? Having the opposite order makes less sense, the year doesn't change as often as the day. Also, break it up a little with underscores or slashes or something, a jumble of numbers is difficult to understand on a glance. :smile.gif:
But question: if we're only allowed to post in those threads when we update, why do we need to put the date in the title? Is it convenience for the search engine?
Side note on reading kabonos' post: Is there some way to make the comments thread show up automatically? And lock the download/about thread to just the author and mods/admins? That way you only have to post in that thread each update, and don't really need to 'maintain' it otherwise. The discussion goes to the other thread, of course.
But what the **** is this restructuring going to accomplish? This will cause even more chaos than before unless the mods ACTUALLY MODERATE.
If I remember correctly, there was a ruling passed by the all mighty admins about a month ago that stated that anyone who didn't have a licensing statement in their thread would have their thread deleted.
This has not been enforced. Neither have the myriad of other formatting rules specific to the texture pack forum.
There is NO POINT in making rules if they are not enforced.
At this moment all you are doing is making everyone's lived miserable with no gain for the community. If you can promise that the forums will be moderated than maybe, MAYBE, I can see this working.
You may have to murder all the idiots in the world as well.

I am much more satisfied by what has been presented recently as well. I don't think anyone's still threatening to walk out at this point.
Hold on to your hats, guys: Criticsquid is posting to the texture pack forum. He's obviously starting a new thread from what his status is on his profile (or so I hope).

I actually get what BlueSteel is saying I think. What he wants is to have one thread where only the author can post and one thread where everyone can post.
Basically the download thread will help the members find new and updated textures and the comments section would be just like the current section is where everyone posts and stuff.
The way I see it, anyone who wouldnt want to post updates in the downloads forum could juat use the comments section just like he/she uses it now.
I still think this is pretty useless as people wont really need much more than a date in the OP to see that the thread is updated, not to mention that updating the thread in the downloads section would only keep your pack on the front page for a few minutes meaning that pretty much no one will see it, again, making the downloads thread completely useless for both the authors and users.
At least this is no where near as bad as the previous suggestion. Still, it wont help anyone and itll just make the forums more messy. im telling you right now that that will be a dead section.
You also mentioned a separate forum for discussions sort of like Dantes idea which i sort of like, but again, you somehow managed to make it more complicated than needed.
Well, I've seen a lot of discussion about the texture packs section, but there's still the issue of the mods. As TehKrush pointed out, he has ten mods, he supports older versions, according to the (so far) planned model, there's four threads per mod, and he can't group them all in one thread per section, so that's 80 threads. Instead of splitting up mods by the same author, the current way works for that, where most authors group their mods into one thread. That would mean eight threads instead of 80, using TehKrush as an example again. That's still a bit much, using the current 'tagging' system, replacing the period with an underscore so people can use [1_8], [1_7_3], [1_7], etc. for searching would be fine. That still leaves the issue of four threads, but that could again be easily simplified to two, in this case, a help/bugs thread and a release/discussion thread.
Honestly, in my opinion, rather than splitting threads, and having separate subsections for each version of Minecraft, we should keep that as is. As for the other proposed changes, like moving the skins subsection and renaming the section, those sound fine.
I agree with CyborgDragon here. We already had a massive change and people are just settling in with the way things are. We can improve upon (by adding skins, name changes, maybe a couple sub-forums) the way things are, but people really don't like drastic changes too often.
Totally against this change, seems like it will just add needless bloat and confusion to the already very busy forums. Plus it's just more aggravating for people trying to keep their threads updated.
The problem seems to be with trying to organize a file repository (yes, I know there are no files actually here ) out of a forum. You don't get the options to find recently updated files while filtering out recent comments or vice-versa.
What you should really do is grab IP.Downloads and build a proper Downloads section. This can be customized to use the external download links provided by Authors, create a thread for each Texture Pack/Mod/etc., and give a proper interface for searching files.

Well... It wasn't really you I was referring to.
I'm on the fence about it... I don't want this. I just don't. It's WAY too much for something so simple.

The plan needs more thought, planning and redesign.
