So last night, one of the MOD's decided they didn't like one of my harmless threads which I posted in good humor. Well, after some of the crap I see posted here, I could not believe it! So I decided to send a PM to the site Admins, and while insulting the MOD a bit (who didn't have the gull to even post a reason for the locked thread), my main goal was to bring this unjustified treatment to their attention.
This morning, I received two responses. One of the Admins gave a decent response, but the other Admin (whom I will not name) gave a response that a 12 year old would give... I couldn't believe this was a response from an Admin! A few hours after this, someone in California was found logging into my Facebook account, and my account was locked.
Coincidence? Perhaps... But I suspect abuse. I'd like to bring this to the attention of the SITE OWNER and warn everyone else to use a generic password unique only to this site. I really do not trust those running this site any longer.
While we do list "ability to perform magic" on our moderator application requirements, we have yet to find a moderator who is actually capable of performing magic so I'm unsure which staff member could conceivably have accessed your Facebook account, unless they have lied about their ability to accomplish the impossible.

If you can provide me with the name of the staff member you dealt with I will promptly reprimand them for not disclosing their magic abilities to the administration.
I believe that the passwords are stored ATLEAST double encrypted in the server database (my frined cracked server did, this can too) and nobody can access them, and even if you do get in the passwords will look something like this "w435v3hfvhj34v5hjv" and can only be retrieved by the owner clicking "forgot password".
He meant the admin checked what his password was for the Minecraft Forums, (which i assume they can)
Can they do that? I would think that the moderators would have the power to reset a password, but I don't think that even they would be able to see what it is.
Edit: What grooveboy101 said. It would take a skilled individual to decrypt the password, and they most certainly wouldn't care about your facebook account.
Possible, but remember, admins most likely have access to the files of the website. The passwords would be easy to find if you have full access to everything.
I imagine that the only ones with access to that info are high-level Curse administrators, and that they would only ever give that info over to police investigators and the like.
I agree, there are really a COUNTLESS number of people that could have hacked your facebook, i have experienced it MANY times before and think you are just overreacting to something that was PURELY COINCIDENTAL.
He meant the admin checked what his password was for the Minecraft Forums, (which i assume they can) and then, because he was using the same password for facebook, the admin used it to log on to fb.

PS: citricsquid, you look like a fool saying stuff like that and everyone else is taking it seriously
No, the passwords are encrypted in the mySQL database, and I doubt Curse even has a person who can decrypt the passwords, plus it would take a while to even find the passwords in the database.

Yea, that's what I meant. Cause I use the same default password on sites I do not need to store any vital information, or on sites that do not contain bank account numbers and such, I just use the same password...
But I know this site wasn't always on the Curse network, I do not know about their DB backups, what the Admins actually have access to, and seeing how I run multiple sites, I know that a site can be setup to show passwords (not sure how this one handles it) and I know that anyone will access to the DB can rip the info out.
I just found the timing of this to be too close to be just random... seein' how I have had a FB account for numerous years, I don't use it hardly any, don't have any 'apps?' installed on it, and hardly log in... to have this happen on the same day/day after, raises suspicions.
I'm not saying that one did it... I'm just saying that one may have, if the Admins here have access to that sort of info.
I doubt the staff would ever steal your password. I mean, they are hashed into MySQL. There's one way to read your private messages and that would be changing the password through admin panel and then logging in with the new password.

We can't view your password. This is a screen from a random member:
There is no way we can view the password you filled in, it is encrypted.
'normal' admins can't even access the databases.
Can they do that? I would think that the moderators would have the power to reset a password, but I don't think that even they would be able to see what it is.
We can not on both accounts. Those are higher Admin Level powers. SecMods are bound to topic and post level powers.
rule #1 of the internet: never use the same password for everything!
also why would an admin or curse employee take the time to figure out your password and use it to get into your facebook profile? what would they gain from that? not to mention it being impossible/very hard to do so...

I am here for you, Don't be afraid to send me a message.

How is this shocking?
Admins are unable to magically log in to other users Facebook accounts.

It is technically possible, but we can't view your PMs right now.
I know on Phpbb, with some tricky handywork, you can access Private messages.
I don't know about IP.Board.

Passwords cannot be viewed by anyone, not even Curse can view your password in plain text.
