Any chance of having the duplicate thread rule enforced (by the server) in the server section?
Basically, if the user already has a thread in the section, they can only edit the first thread.
It's great!
But, if users are "new" for only 24 hours, wouldn't a troll just make a lot of users, an then spam the next day?
I would suggest some kind of histogram for the content(words, mainly) of the posts and/or the topics made by users and IP-adresses. It could then see the words "free, giveaway, account" in fifteen new topics made by the same IP's and mark them as spam(Possibly to be automaticcaly deleted or sent to be approved).
So, Cheers! :smile.gif:

'new' users, wha useres aren't 'new'? I'm thinkin in apply only in warned users, it's a little bit over.
The issue is this it to stop spam accounts. If only applied to warned users, spam bots would get away with their spamming still since their account used does not have warnings against it.

1) about the limit for new users: how about just a max post limit for that first 24 hours of 20? People may argue about 10, but as long as the new user was told beforehand, I don't think they would argue 20. It's obviously an anti-spam measure and usually people don't actually ahve quite THAT much to say.
2) for older users: I don't know if you could reasonably enforce any post limit on older users that would actually do any good, but I think having a thread limit per day is fair. These spammers are making a bunch of new threads in some cases, aren't they? I know as far as I've noticed in the Minecraft General Discussion forum people don't generally start more than 10 threads a day. Perhaps that would work? Or get a figure for how many posts people make, and figure out a limit based on that? I know that this may cap people's legitimate responses, but at the same time, if people are aware of a cap, perhaps they would take better care to make what they said counted. But that's a feel of the forums thing.

Someone already mentioned earlier in this thread that the average new forum member doesn't post more than 10 times in the first day. That means that increasing it to 20 would only serve to help spammers. Are you saying you support the spammers?
As for older member spam, I'd like to see a change made to the existing rules so that if you obtain a predetermined number of warnings for spamming then you have some kind of post limit enforced on you for whatever amount of time is deemed acceptable by the staff.

That is an unfair argument. Allowing people to post at all helps spammers, as you can't spam if you can't post, but nobody would make a logical argument that people who support posting support spammers.

The average new forum member doesn't post over 10 times in the first 24 hours!
So what point is there to give new posters anything over that amount? None at all, unless you are wanting more spam posts.

True enough, but you were overreacting, saying that the person supported spammers, when truthfully, he just supported the people who posted more than ten times a day.

I actually collected statistics over the past week about the number of posts made in 24 hours by a new users. All spammers of course made more than ten posts. Most new users rarely broke 5 new posts.
I'd say I wasn't overreacting at all. When the statistic prove that there is zero need for new users to post more than 10 times then you are in fact supporting the spammers by asking for a higher new user post cap.

I know why you're doing this and I think its a pretty good idea. The problem is having members like me who registered only to post once or twice on say a mod release thread to show support or suggest something, then hit the forum games and play those a lot. As long as those of us can't get our required posts to lift the limits via the section we really want to be in, then we get more annoyed. Most people who get annoyed enough will either lift the restriction and then spam the heck out of the forums, or spam the forums with the 10 posts they have in hatred of the restriction. I suggest adding in a way for posts to be approved in all the sections, because its blatently unfair to those of us who would just hang out in only one of them. My idea is making it 10 approved posts for that section, give or take a few depending on the section, but it wouldn't count for other sections. That way, those of us who would only hang out in one section could get their 10 approved posts, but then wouldn't have to touch other sections to do so, and if they wanted to have the same in other sections, they would have to get 10 approved posts there. Therefore, even if they did spam, it would be solely confined to the sections they had approved posts in, and you could reinstate the post approval part with less posts per day allowed and more posts needed to get back full privledges.
Thanks for reading, I hope we can find a fair way to do this system.

I tried to update my mod and it gave me an error and seems to have deleted my post. I have the text backed up, but still. It won't let me recreate the topic either. This is kind of ridiculous.

This system is good to start. But I see a loophole, someone could just wait until an account is 24 hr.s old and then start spamming. And how does your system work? unless it uses ip addresses to find out if there is a spammer, someone could just use different login info for every new account.
