New OP:
I think there should be subsections in the Suggestion Section. There could be a subsection for each type of suggestion. For example, the most common suggestions are about: Items, Blocks, Mobs, Game Modes, and Realms (like the Nether). If each of these was a subsection it would do three great things:
Prevent threads from falling off the first page as fast
Keep the forum organized
Keep threads down to one base topic
I think the sections should be Gameplay, Items, Mobs/NPCs, Realms/World Generation, Blocks, Online/SMP, Website/Accounts, Modding Support, and General Discussion. These are basically self explanatory. General Discussion (which is basically what the Suggestions Section is right now as a whole) would not be for actually posting ideas, but for discussing what people want in changes to specific things and to just talk about suggestions in general. What do you think?
Original OP:
Is there any chance that we could get required title formatting for the Suggestion forum similar to the Released mod forum? Currently, the Released Mods page requires all titles to be formatted like this:
[Minecraft-Version]Mod Name[OTHER STUFF]
An example of that would be:
[1.5_01]Portal Mod[V3.0]
I think the suggestions page could benefit from this greatly. It wouldn't be exactly the same, but I think something like this would work:
Topic Title Line:[Suggestion Type]Title
Optional Description Line:[Brief Description of Idea]
[Suggestion Type] would be the general type of suggestion it is, which would consist of things like Item, Realm, Gameplay Mode, Mob, Tweaks/Changes, UI, etc. That would help keep suggestions limited to one thing per suggestion, as per current board rules.
The next section would be the Title. Although it is rather obvious what this means, I suggest that the Title must contain a very barebones title for the idea. We see dozens of ideas every day titled like: "A version of guns that is different and it works" It looks ugly, and the first thought that runs through our head is, "Oh god, not another one of these." Setting a rule that changes it to a catch all Title like "Guns" would greatly help cut down on repeated topics.
Finally, [Brief Description of Idea] could be any number of things. It could be a brief description of the suggestion, a news update (such as if someone made a test mod or if it has been confirmed for inclusion, like the Piston), or what the current discussion topic is. This could possibly be separated and moved to the Topic Description, I'm just unsure if the OP can edit that part, I'll check as soon as I post this.
EDIT: It appears we can no longer edit the topic at all. So this can't be changes as a topic evolves. That said, I still think that the topic description could be used for an actual description following this formatting. Currently no one does this.
All of this could be changed with a simple sticky and would greatly help reduce clutter/repeat topics, make the threads quickly recognizable, and make it easy to identify spam bot posts and/or people who don't bother to try and make their suggestion look good (which usually means it isn't worth reading). I know it usually takes a bit of time for people to get used to a formatting change but this will definitely make the Suggestions forums more manageable.
I'd like to get some feedback on this idea so please post feedback, positive or negative. Thank you for your time.

Yes, I think this would greatly help those who are looking for something in specific. How tough would you suggest this is enforced, however? Lock all topics that don't comply? Could seem a bit harsh to some...
Actually I was thinking if they put the system in place, after a while it would start to enforce itself. People who frequent suggestions regularly are pretty anal about the rules, and they have no problem letting someone know when they break one. The only problem I see is that we can't change topic titles on our own anymore. Although I might have just missed it... I'm sure we would need the occasional mod support, but no more than we do now, seeing how people still blatantly refuse to search.

You can still change your topic title, you just have to click "Use Full Editor" when you edit your post.
OT: I don't like this, but that is probably just because I think those square brackets look ugly. Now that I think about it, this would help mods (Hi Spiteful!) find posts that don't follow the rules.
Overhauled OP, put old OP in Spoiler tags for anyone interested.

A good idea! It would make the suggestions forum much easier to follow.
I think these subforums should also be added though:
Servers/Multiplayer
Mod Support
Accounts & Billing
Well, servers and mp would be covered by online (I'll change it to online/smp), would mod support be for getting specific mods implemented? I think that just putting it in whatever section it otherwise fits in should work, but I'll try it out. Also adding accounts and billing under a catchall website and account section.
