I think this is a problem endemic to the whole site but the suggestions forum has quite a bit of it. In addition to the site-wide rules announcement, there are five stickied threads in the suggestions forum as follows:
It's a lot to read through for someone who has just gotten here, and a lot of it is redundant/overlapping. Making it a big impractical chore to read through the stickies, in my opinion, is more likely to encourage skipping the lot of them, increasing the mess in that forum.
I propose the first one be unstuck. While I appreciate what it says and generally agree, I don't think that folks should get the impression that it needs to be read, or that it somehow reflects a policy that precludes the notion of any of these things ever being implemented if a good enough suggestion is made in its favor.
I propose that "How to Make A Suggestion", "READ: A Guide and Rules to posting suggestions/ideas", and "READ BEFORE POSTING (Suggestions Specific)" be condensed significantly and made into one topic. I do believe this can be done and would be willing to take up the task or provide input to someone else.
As for the already suggested topics, I'm thinking it needs to be spruced up a little but otherwise it is doing just fine.
Something which may also help would be if board settings were revised slightly so that stickied topics have bold text of a different color than other topics (probably doesn't matter too much what color, as it's just a temporary thing until the switch, where things will have to be figured out for a new site) This would make them more visually distinguishable from the other topics, but with the decrease in the number of topics from 5 to 2 (3 counting the main rules thread) it also would make them less of an obstruction.
Anyway I'd love to hear input and criticism on this idea, so cry havoc and let slip the dogs of...er, discuss.
