(A bit off-topic but) I got warned a month ago for posting meme-spam. I completely agree with the decision of the moderator, but when I checked out the thread, all replies were breaking the rules.
I was posting a meme and got warned. The other two users that posted, posted one word replies ("lol" and "k") and didn't get warned.
I don't want the users that broke the rules warned, I just want to ask the mods to be more thorough when they're doing their jobs.
This I can agree with. Obviously with the limited number of folks working on it and the large amount of traffic and new members this place receives it makes the task of being thorough rather than doing the quick-and-cursory a lot harder.
Well, it seems not very much of you are getting a certain message. Admins and mods RUN the site. They NEED the power. If they didn't have it, well this forum would be full of viruses, ads, trolls, etc. If they didn't exist, same thing. End of discussion(i hope).

I USED TO BE EPICJOE! I HAVE A dA! epikjoe . deviantart. com And remember, I KNOW don't click this link...
MY only slight problem is how the NPA (notch's personal army) can flame, and not get warned. But most of the time it's both sides, so it is slightly justified. But other then that the mods are all calm and do their job well.
Also, you seem a little bit paranoid, the mobs did not move this to let it die, it really has nothing related to minecraft.

I have personally not seen any evidence of bias based on opinions of minecraft. There are plenty of ommisions around here, but that's due to the quantity of problems, and what gets reported, not the mods picking favorites. I'll tell you one thing, if a user signs up for the Minecraft forums just to post about how much he hates minecraft, I'm much more likely to assume that his purpose here is to be a troll, because, well, why would you sign up for a forum for a game you don't play?
If people flame a troll, I'll give them a little more leeway because I don't really want the troll to successfully get good users banned just because they got angry (unless they're really over the line, or flame in a way that may upset other people, beyond just that troll)
If they're not a troll, I believe everyone does their best to give them the respect and fairness that every poster deserves.

Here we go again, whining about this non-existent "Notch Defense Force" Last I checked, users have a right to both flame AND defend their game developers.

Well, actually, According to the rules, they have no right to "flame" the game developers or anyone. They can disagree. I have seen lame wars begin because someone said that notch was doing a bad job developing minecraft.
But honestly, I've only seen it once and the mods were mostly impartial, so as I said, it's a slight issue.

While there may be an element of favoritism or wink-wink about it, something else may be that simply people who flame the establishment are more likely to get noticed by the establishment.
Another thing that I notice, despite my time here being notably short, is that the amount of ad hominem on these boards is ridiculous. There's one side that is constantly making criticisms and calling their refutations people "defending Notch", implying it's inherently biased and unreasonable and not addressing the logic of their statements.
Likewise, when criticisms are presented in a reasonable fashion, people call it "hating on Notch", implying the same thing. It's simply a case of flaming and ad hominem over rational discussion.
There are people who are coming with a great deal of rudeness and entitlement and throwing demands and insults in with their criticisms of the game somehow. They're as preposterous in their actions as the people who yell at the checkers at their local grocery store over the price of something, and like someone who comes into a store and starts being insulting and making demands it should be of no surprise when they're asked to leave.
There are, however, people who are likewise rude and insulting towards those with legitimate criticisms presented logically and politely in a constructive manner, and it should be of particular emphasis to the moderation team to show them respect and protect their threads from individuals wishing to flame them or derail the topic.
Speaking of which, I think it's long past due that we move on from that particular topic and back to the actual issue of Admin authority.
I'm extending a formal invitation, a request, even, for offended forum-goers to find undeserved warnings. If you can show us situations in which people did not deserve their punishments, we will make amends.
The thing is, you won't.
To people like DaBiggMan, who think that whether people like Minecraft or not is still a factor: it isn't. You think it is because people who don't like MC get warned more, but that's because they're usually the people stirring up trouble. Here's a quote, for those curious...

Meh just ignore him he is just bitter about how minecraft is being developed and loves mentioning it,
Which is entirely true, and not an attack at all.
I'm getting tired of all the trouble you're causing. What's worse is that you think your opinion is law and you're willing to try spreading it until it's treated as such. Earlier you said you have saved discussions of moderators threatening to ban you for no reason. If it's not a problem for you, I'd like to see all of them. Then maybe we can finally put this to rest.

as I said I've only seen only possible area of favoritism, but it was only once, and was a gray area. I really don't have any problem with the mods or admins and think their doing fine.

That "most of the time" was most of one time? Would this whole statement be based on one time of grey area? Can you explain this apparent contradiction?
When I said "gray area" I meant the flaming was on both sides so it would be difficult to choose which person deserved the warning. When I said "most of the time" I meant that most of time both sides are flaming. The "one time" I was referring to was the one time I actually saw warnings handed out. I hope that cleared it up.

So by "most of the time" you meant that one time there was a warning that you might not have agreed with but you're not sure?
No I meant most of the time there is an argument about notch's work ethic, development, etc. There is flaming on both sides. The only time I've seen mods being slightly biased was once. So yes there was only one warning in a argument about notch that I disagreed with. But it was a gray area because both sides where doing just about the same thing.

Doesn't it seem that the complaint there is not that "Notch's Army" flames and isn't warned, but just that people aren't getting warned? So why did you use that qualifier in the first place in your complaint?
I'm watching this thread with some interest. I think the main problem is that the admins won't make admins or moderators of people who oppose them. Thus, the group of moderators and admins have similar interests, and that is where any bias comes in. Of course, that's all hypothetical. I also find it interesting that the moderators posting on this thread, are, for the most part, bluntly denying any of what the opposition says.
I'd like to point at A.I.'s post. He said that you wouldn't find any unjust warnings, which may very well be the case. But I think the main problem lies in, while only warning those who have broken the rules, also possibly turning a blind eye to their friends, or to whichever side of the argument they are on.
And perhaps people opposing Notch or the administration here are just trying to cause trouble, but that's not always the case. As someone on this thread said previously, do the job more thoroughly.
Also, to A.I. could you link me to the thread where the posts you quoted came from?
In any case, this is just my two cents, and I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

I put it in because the mods said they want honest feed back on their work. But, It really is a very very small issue and not worth as much discussion as it got. That would be my one and only SLIGHT complaint. The mods do a great job. Again it was the only issue I could think of and it was a very minute complaint.

Maybe the mods don't want to have to deal with the folks who are just a pain on a constant basis, and stir up trouble instead of making calm, constructive criticisms in a non "**** da police" kind of way?

I believe that quote was aimed at DaBiggman. You've been discussing this in a respectful manner, certain other posters have not.
as for hiring non-like-minded mods, what do you suggest? Mods that don't like minecraft? that seems to be the only opinion-based issue that's being mentioned.
