So, I'm finally going to build an idea I've had for ages: Medals!
What are medals?
Medals will be little medals that show in your profile and post bit, they will be awarded for being helpful in the community, submitting skins and things like that. There will also be user created medals, these will be created by users and after approval by me they'll be given out by the user who created them to anyone they like. For example, if I ran a spleef tournament I could "create" a medal and then I would be able to give it out to everyone who participated in the tournament, and the winners, things like that.
So yeah, any questions or suggestions? Feel free to suggest medals and stuff, quite a few planned that I'll list soon.
Example medals:
Modder:

Server owner:
Approved suggestions:
Images will most likely change, but these are just "ideas" for the time being. Hopefully we can eventually have these revolve around the game and stuff, Notch sounded willing to help with that.
Medals for alpha or beta testing would be cool, and so would alignment medals (you know, good/neutral/evil), although I'm not entirely sure how those should be awarded (I don't want to encourage people to be negative).
Maybe you could have alignment medals awarded personally to people. i like the idea of alpha/beta tester awards (i'll include those below for good measure)
Some medal ideas of my own:
Skinner - Make 5+ skins
Master Skinner - Make 10+ Skins or have a combined download rate exceeding 100
Master Mind - Contribute a reasonable amount of information to the wiki
Craftsmanship - Build a structure that's featured on the wiki (this was something quatro was planning to do)
Notch's Love - Be mentioned on the blog at least once
Sherlock - On the case (always being helpful)
Alpha Tester - Does what it says on the tin
Beta Tester - Does what it says on the tin
Multiplayer Tester - Those first MP tests Notch ran (maybe)
I can has Recon - Special award give by staff for love :3
Bad medals:
Banned - Be banned :3
Slapped Wrists - Have a mod edit your post or warn you
Ugly face - Makes useless posts (spam)
Double Toast - Bumps or double posts a lot (more of a fun award :biggrin.gif:)
I'd recommend looking through The Escapist forums for medal ideas and inspirations. The description of your idea sounds pretty much like what they have, honestly. Also, a 1-up mushroom medal for kicks.

The medals are for "achievements", not for being banned. So anything "negative" won't be included. I like those ideas - ignoring the negatives ones - and I'll definitely use them :biggrin.gif:
Sticky Fellow - Have one of your threads stickied.
Inspector Gadget - First to report a valid in-game error/glitch/etc.
Mini-Mod - Average 10+ reports on the forum per day in any given week (Sun-Sat)
MineGamer - Create a MineCraft game with an approval rating higher than 80% with at least 50 raters
Forum Gamer - Create a forum game that gets at least 500 replies
Sir Talksalot - Take a screenshot proving you had the last post in every section on the forum at one time
Inspector Gadget - First to report a valid in-game error/glitch/etc.
MineGamer - Create a MineCraft game with an approval rating higher than 80% with at least 50 raters
I'm trying to keep the medals more of something you have to work for, I don't want to encourage spamming and stuff and I'd like them to focus as much around minecraft as possible. Maybe I should be more clear about what I want :tongue.gif: I left in the "AWESOME!" ones though, definitely be using those 2 :biggrin.gif:
Okay, I gotcha. Though I really think the one about getting a thread stickied wouldn't encourage spam. Rather, I think it would encourage constructive, productive, intelligent threads. Anyway, here are some more ideas then:
MineTuber - Create a MineCraft-related YouTube video that gets at least 2,500 views.
Trusted OP - Earn a spot on the Trusted Server OP List.
King Tut - Create a MineCraft-related tutorial with at least 50 positive responses
Top Notch - Provide a screen shot of Notch near something you've constructed. Must be verified by Notch himself or a trusted forum-goer.
RealCraft - Create something off of the computer (something tangible) related to Minecraft. This can be artwork, costumes, etc.
Okay, my mind is spent for a bit. More to come as I think of them.

That's more like it! I agree about the stickied one, didn't consider that :tongue.gif: I'll definitely go with them, I especially like how clever "Top Notch" is, would be great fun to have :biggrin.gif:
Okay, so I can have medals for my contests? Because I will hold a lot of them. :biggrin.gif:
There will be medals for contests, correct. These medals will only be available for minecraft related things and subject to approval. For example, if you run a competition for making the best tree house you'll be able to submit medals for that competition, then once these medals have been approved you'll have an option to give out these medals to people. Medals given out to others will display in the postbit, but limited to around 5 or so with a button for more, so that if someone has 100 medals it doesn't make the page huge :biggrin.gif:
but yes; you'll upload the medal images (or select pre-existing) add a medal description.

Okay, well, I finished a medal that would need approval:
AlexVMiner Build Medal
This medal was awarded by AlexVMiner for excellence of the building variety. This person won one of AlexVMiner's contests.
Location Badge - Where you live, and the country's flag, as in, US, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Wherever!
Greifer Badge - Have been found as A griefer before.

He means he will not be giving medals for post counts etc.
Medals are for in-game accomplishments that are recognized by the community, or assisting in the growth and maturing of the community.
Take for example when I posted the Papercraft Mob, I assisted in the maturing of the community by involving them in a creative project where they could produce an actual product of something they enjoy and further change and improve it by making it personal to them. Then they can show it off to people and get feedback and compliments and it brings the community closer, that is an achievement.
Whereas, spamming the forum games board boosting your post count and subsequently your e-penis. Is not an accomplishment. It just simply shows you have too much time on your hands and aren't really doing anything creative with it.

I hope that helps answer your question.
Spot on, Zuriki! Stuff like the papercraft thread is the sort of thing that would get you medals because it's based around minecraft, not the forum. *points everyone to this post*

And there was another 0pts one for losing a mission 5 times in a row.
