They show up with the link to the picture, but the image tag isn't having any effect.
What's odd is if I go to edit the post, the pictures show up. I thought maybe resubmitting it like this would resolve it, but it doesn't.
As the post was originally typed without the rich editor (so, manually using the BB codes), I thought maybe trying to place the picture in rich mode would work. When getting the link from Photobucket, I try to paste it and nothing happens.
If I then go to leave the rich editor mode, the tab locks up. The CPU goes to 100%, and memory starts leaking. This is reproducible, at least with Firefox, and I have a video showing the steps I just described above.
Whether that's a set of steps that's likely or important enough that warrants resolving is another matter, but it does happen. And I did naturally encounter it.
I can't do anything about that and I can avoid it, but I figured I'd report it.
What I would like input on though is the original issue I had which led to me encountering that in the first place.
Why aren't my pictures working in the post linked above? They remain as links inside the image tags. It might be down to something Photbucket does since I can get Imgur links to work fine (so my solution might be to move the images there if I can't find a solution), but I used Photbucket in the following thread below, and the same method (the direct image link between image tags) results in images.
I even tried the other (non direct link) methods Photbucket has for sharing images and the forum software here just refuses to show it as a picture. It's always a link. Yet it worked in the past as the second post immediately above shows. I wonder if I try editing that post if it'd lose the images. I'm not willing to try. Maybe something was changed on Photobucket's end?
Ever since this forum software changed many years ago, it's been really, really picky in behavior and also performance draining (in rich editor mode mostly) when it comes to pictures, especially a lot of them.
Update: With the help of someone else, the reason that originally led to me encountering this issue has been resolved! the images in the post are working. It was user error! Apparently, having a closing tag as the opening tag of one image stopped them all from showing.
The conditions to reproducibly cause what seems to be a pretty nasty memory leak (and high CPU use) is definitely there though, so I'll leave this for that.
To summarize, trying to paste an image into the rich text editor that wouldn't paste, and then trying to switch from the rich text editor to the basic editor, is what caused this. I'm not sure if my incorrect image tag was necessary to reproduce this. If it was a result of the incorrect image tag, then maybe this isn't so much a problem.
Yeah, it was a broken image tag that was doing it. So it's "solved" at least insofar as my original issue.
The behavior of things going awry if those condition arise still exist though. It's a reproducible memory leak/page hang. I'm not sure if the issue is with the forum software or maybe my web browser (I use Firefox), though I suspect the former. I didn't try with another web browser to confirm that though. I figure either way, it probably doesn't matter. I reported it. I can't do much else with it.
In one of my posts, my pictures aren't consistently showing.

There sure are a lot of these types of errors on the site. Always have to be careful with editing, and with attachments or links.
