I've turned off notifications and emails in part because I get these sent to me on top of replies to threads I'm in.
No use blocking anyone since it's a different account every time, and I don't even know how to do that here anyway.
Can I turn my DMs off altogether? It's not what I wanted but this has been going on for a year and I'm getting fed up by now.
I can tell you that replying won't do anything, because they are just posting and leave, just like bots. The issue as well is that the spam filter which is supposed to help alleviate these posts isn't flagging them yet, and we don't have much dev time to work out better solutions. This is also why we turned off comments on the news posts, because it was bad there too.
If you report them, we can at least "purge" the DMs from any account that got them.
But no, there is not a way to turn off DMs or comments on a profile. (DMs are actually how warnings are sent, so disabling it would prevent you from seeing them).
I hadn't considered that this could be an issue in messages. I don't (think?) I've gotten any.
Is there really no way to restrict messaging capability until a person has a given number of forum posts? I know that was possible with forum software years and years ago using user groups, but I'm not sure about this software, or if it would be easy/quick to apply. It wouldn't entirely prevent the possibility of these bots doing this (and you'd also restrict new legitimate users from using it and, say, contacting staff with an issue if they have one from the onset, which may be why this isn't in place if it's already possible), but it'd at least reduce the number of no/low post ones from doing it.
