This web traffic site claims that this site received 2.6 million visits in December 2022, which is extremely hard to believe, as is the claim that it gets $10-15 million of income per year (the forums were almost shut down in 2019 due to insufficient traffic to generate income):
Another site claims that there were 5.3 million visitors in January 2023, with a much higher visit duration, and both show a significant increase over the past few months, which is again very hard to believe:
If so many people are still visiting the forums then what are they doing on the site (if you are one of them I'd like to know)? It surely can't all be spammers; I looked at https://archive.org/ and there were only about 14,000 new accounts created in the past month, unless a lot of the visits are from failed attempts to register new accounts (I've been told the spam is coming from real people and not bots so typical anti-bot measures/captchas shouldn't be blocking many of them); the number of concurrent logged-in users averages around 20-30.
I've also noted the disconnect between measures like new accounts and actual activity in the past; back in early 2019 the forums were growing at the rate of over 100,000 accounts per month, before the relatively recent wave of spam (or is it that old and just masked by legitimate activity / more active moderators?):
Also, I noticed that the online user statistics seem to no longer properly count "guests", as shown in post #12 in the link above, often showing that there are 0, which is surely not correct:
May 9: Online Users: 2,797 (108 members and 2,689 guests)
August 8: Online Users: 5,088 (217 members and 4,871 guests)
Current: Online Users: 20 (20 members and 0 guests)

I'm assuming that just because of how many fundamental resources have been posted here, the site still receives significant traffic. However, I still can't imagine anywhere near that many people showing up.
It does seem strange that the reported traffic numbers are so high compared to the actual activity on the forums.
One possibility is that a lot of the traffic could be from visitors who don't engage, like passive readers or people who visit but don’t create accounts or post. Analytics tools often count every visit, including those from bots or search engine crawlers, which could inflate the numbers.
It’s possible that some of the data is outdated or not accounting for actual user engagement. Maybe the online user stats glitch is also contributing to the confusion.
If anyone here is a frequent visitor, it would be interesting to know what parts of the site are getting the most attention.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Maybe bots and tracking search engine robots are included
In another forum where I am active, up to 10 such search engine robots are active - they count as user visits in the statistics
Bing and Google are common example bots:
