It looks like data isn't actually deleted, just hidden. When I load one of my own threads about my mod, I can see the posts for a very short amount of time before them being hidden behind a "deleted" banner. The data is actually there, I can see it. Heck, it's even visible in the source code of the page. They must be able to restore them if the account owner gives consentement.

While it is true that other users' posts in non-migrated threads are merely hidden, I doubt that the content that was possibly covered under the GDPR and without explicit consent of the user is actually still accessible.
Maybe your browser, computer or a network node cached some of this data, but after a full refresh none of these data should be visible anymore.

We know the data is just hidden and the mods are, in fact, able to restore them. But they have to do it post per post. The question here is if they'll come up with a tool to automatically resetore all posts or if they'll do it manually. Haven't seen any updates on this yet ...

Perhaps citricsquid could shed a light on this?
Aside from what is mentioned, I can still see quoted posts by deleted users; for example, meaning that the forums could be held liable for not thoroughly purging all their personal data (and many more posts could be lost unless they edited them to delete the quotes, but then the replies would have no context, and more valuable information in them may be lost). Of course, you can also still find deleted posts/users in archives (unfortunately, this doesn't always work for links to deleted threads since the URL may have changed over time due to renames/forum restructurings).
I only *rarely* visit the forum nowadays, but when I noticed that all of my posts were deleted I checked google and was directed towards this thread.
I hardly really posted at all on this forum (total of ~130 posts in 10 years), but regarding the e-mails. I only received the daily "what's happening on minecraftforum" mails, nothing about a GDPR notice (at least from Curse).
Unless the email address isn't configured properly I can still access my account, and view my subscribed threads and comments (but I have to un-hide them using inspect element on the post), but given that I hardly ever visit these forums nowadays I was taken aback.
When I visit my profile page it links to my twitch profile, I had to re-enter my username (it was renamed to user-...), but as stated in the first post my posts were "deleted".
I have finally turned off those notifications though, given that I hardly if ever watched that folder in my mailbox because of that daily email.
Nevertheless double-checking with Thunderbird on the email addresses I used for both this forum back in the day and curse, old and new) never received an email about a GDPR notice from Curse.
What "from" address was used when these emails were being sent?
EDIT: Now that I posted this message the postcount changed and I can tell a couple things changed in my profile. Looks like it only updates when you post a new message.
Hmm, yeah, I don't know what or why it happened but I haven't received any emails like that (or from that address) in either my old gmail address or my twitch accounts' address...
Nothing I can do about it now but that really stinks. Perhaps one of the mods/admins might be able to clear it up a bit?
I've just logged in and saw that all the work I did is wiped away. And I see I'm not alone. Years of great work has been lost. This is really horrible.

Can't you just refuse to comply? This is why you should switch the forums to its own website that doesn't have to answer to other companies or the government. That way you can break as many laws as you want and as long as you don't give them your email, real name, address, etc the government can't do a damn thing about it.
If you have a public online service, there will always be some governing instance that you will have to answer to.
And keep in mind that this law was passed to basically protect users from information hoarders like Google and Amazon in the first place. :/

So... you only have 3 pages to this thread posted months ago.
Nothing to update? Nothing to share?
What happened to you? You post nothing. Have a look at the news and it's nothing but Java update blurbs regurgitated from Mojang. We already know about that stuff. I skimmed the newsfeed and found you haven't had an interesting original news post since pre-1.12, seems nothing since March 2017 . You used to showcase community projects. You used to have little featured links posted on the top of the forums bar you could click from any area. Then the redesign. Then the forced twitch integration (despite Google+ / youtube being an utter failure), then the mass deletion.
Really? 2017? Not even the last one? Guys what is going on?
Your twitter account of 50 thousand followers hasn't posted a thing since July 2018 - to a game that isn't even part of the minecraft forum?! Was it hacked?
Glancing today, traffic is dead, links don't work, prefixes are not up to date, posting is still broken as it was in 2014. So much history lost. For what? Text on a webpage that doesn't belong to any country. I simply do not understand why posts can't be resurrected if a user gives their consent. Aside from this, I'm not even sure you can accurately determine who is "covered under this law", considering the vast majority of accounts are anonymous. I'd recommend auto-linking "removed" posts to this thread. Legalities aside, the entire forum is a graveyard. Interestingly, my posts haven't even been deleted, but the links connecting them from all over youtube are broken, because you changed again. I used to be incredibly active here. The death of the forum isn't just about deleting 1 million users. With even fewer users than ever, you're just not connecting with the community. When is the last mod or map or resource pack you shared?
Wow. So you guys made a deal that severely compromised the historic nature of this server in terms of archived posts, AND you're constantly removing utility from the site (server listings)?

Well, it's dead, Jim. RIP
Not the update I would have liked to see, but understandable. I guess I have to find another place to host my resource pack. I don't like reddit, so Planet Minecraft seems to be the only popular option. We'll see ...

I'm wondering how much it costs to run the forums, and how much more it costs to keep them up fully as opposed to read-only (I'm of the impression that moderators are unpaid volunteers so they don't contribute to costs); according to one site they earn about $1,900 a day from ad revenue, which sounds like a lot to me:
minecraftforum.net receives about 173,500 unique visitors and 314,035 (1.81 per visitor) page views per day which should earn about $1,924.02/day from advertising revenue. Estimated site value is $1,212,079.25.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
For what it's worth,
I only *rarely* visit the forum nowadays, but when I noticed that all of my posts were deleted I checked google and was directed towards this thread.

I also never received any email about this, but suddenly all the old things are gone
I'm very sad that this happened. The threads for the Witchery and Diversity mods are now gone (Apparently forever
).
This really wasn't the way to go about doing things...

Seriously. What happened to these things?

You're just great at this, huh?
So, it has been nearly 4 months now, still no update on this ...
Really wish the forum was run by people who were dedicated to it, instead of businesses.
All that is keeping this forum online are people who are dedicated to it.

that doesnt consider the costs of running the site, and really i wouldnt be surprised if thousands of dollars is practically nothing in comparison
