Yes, a lot of people would agree with you, including me. However, it's not a big deal, it takes two seconds to make your Twitch account, and a Twitch account isn't any worse than a Curse account.
As mentioned, merging takes a minute at most. For background, this forum has required Curse network accounts since 2011, in 2011 members were required to merge their Minecraft Forum accounts with Curse accounts to continue using the forum. Then, in 2016, Curse was acquired by Twitch, and the Curse Client has become the Twitch App. As part of Curse essentially becoming Twitch, Curse accounts have ceased to exist, because Curse accounts became Twitch accounts. The Minecraft Forum is simply catching up with the rest of Curse: we are replacing the Curse account system with the Twitch account system. This is mandatory because the old system is going away, and it's simply changing your Curse account for a Twitch account behind the scenes.
Here's my problem - who am I now? Will my forum name be replaced with my crap Twitch username?
Creating a Twitch account, as mentioned, is simple and quick. But that doesn't make the process or fact it's being done any less confusing, annoying or upsetting. How long before we do it AGAIN when Amazon decides Twitch accounts should be borged into Amazon accounts?
Merging your account into a Twitch account takes less than a minute, and your Minecraft Forum nickname will remain the same. Your posts, subscriptions, messages and servers will be unchanged. After merging accounts, you’ll simply log in to the forum using your Twitch credentials.
Still a terrible idea, no purpose, rhyme, or reason for a twitch merger whatsoever.
oh and I'll probably forget my twitch login because I won't ever even use it... which sucks considering it's now a forced requirement.
Then write it down?
And yeah, there is a rhyme and reason. Twitch bought Curse. They want to understandably twitch-ify all of curse's stuff. It's how businesses do things like this.
I don't care if it's a Curse, Twitch or Blue Cheese account - I just want to know what's happened to the Curse Minecraft Mods pages (yeah off topic I know, but I am soooooo p-ed off right now).
But if being bought by Twitch means more than being forced to have a Twitch account but a changing of the great way Curse gave us access to Minecraft mods with full information for all these years, then I for one have a message for them censored and cya.

Are you referring to the "Mods on Curse" tab at the top of the page? As far as I can tell it still works; I don't know if they changed the layout recently since I can't recall looking at it until now (I have not used any mods other than my own for several years) but it doesn't seem broken in any way.
As an aside, there is still a "Get [Curse] Premium" link at the bottom of the page, which gives me a "not found" page (this was discontinued months ago).

The browsing menu was missing on the mods page, which meant unless you knew exactly which mod you wanted, you had to look through all of them.
But it's there now so I guess I caught it mid-implementation?
But the "makeover" is awful. Used to be much easier to get around. No idea why they changed something that worked well for so many years!
Being forced to migrate to twitch is not a good idea, I think a lot of people would agree with me on this!

Your nickname will remain as tin2001.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
