In order to see if you have a notification you have to keep refreshing, and if you're PMing someone and they're online you have to keep refreshing to see if they replied. But if these were live, you'd get the PM or Notification without refreshing.

I know that the guys I talk with would all enjoy this. We talk, and when we're all on the Forums, it gets a pain.
I'm all up for this, but the forums are still buggier than a bethesda game. Making a big change like this might screw up the notifications system royally.
Maybe... But the MinecraftForums have good developers in my opinion. I think this would be an awesome addition.
But it could be simpler, not everyone would know how to do that, nor would want to knowing that the PM's are live anyway, Plus the live notifications too make it very satisfying

This would be great for when I'm having conversations with people, support.
Because this is the MinecraftForums, people aren't going to give away their phone number nor their email to text to random people on the Internet.
Think of it like Skype for the MinecraftForums. If you don't get it, well... There's nothing not to understand :/
Well, I'll never use it much, but it seems like it would be very useful if it can be done.

Retired StaffWe have an irc channel already (http://www.minecraftforum.net/meta/chat) and it's very easy to set up your own on Esper
