Before I begin, I just want to wish everyone a happy new year!
So, suggestions. Remind me... Why is it there again? The Suggestion forum is very active, don't get me wrong. However it doesn't really seem practical. Why? I'll explain.
Mojang doesn't browse MCF. At the same time, lets understand here. The guys at Mojang are pretty chill and they aren't quite the kind to constantly check things. Now take into the account the amount of suggestions in there. There is a LOT of threads. Both good and bad. At the same time, they view the Reddit suggestions area, so what's up with that? *Just thinking there* So there really is not much of a point in posting there rather than Reddit. There is just 1 that I can think of at the moment and that's to "smooth the edges" of a suggestion.
Mostly what I see now is some really good suggestions going to waste. I'm not really one to speak negativity but I felt that this might be worthy of discussion.
Do realize that Reddit is a major social media website while this is more of a secluded forum that is kind of esoteric unless you are interested in these kinds of things, but then there is also the fact that a subreddit might be somewhat easier to read, because it's set like a deck of cards.
The only reason the Suggestion section exists on this forum is to be a sink for all the inevitable suggestion threads that would/do pop up. Is it a waste of time because Mojang doesn't read it? That's up to each individual user making threads, helping flesh out suggestions, or handing out constructive criticism of the ideas being presented. You may feel that it is a waste of time, but I know many users here don't feel that way and good for them. If you want to post your suggestion on Reddit on the off chance some Mojangster sees it, knock yourself out.

Thanks for your response! As far as a sink I can definitely see why. The traffic on the sudreddit would be quite up there otherwise. For feeling that it's a waste of time, perhaps. I just want to clarify that I don't mean to be that dictatorial guy saying that just because I find no reason for it means no one should use it at all. I really don't. If it's there, then people should feel free to use it. I used to be active in there myself.

Very true, and I'm aware that Reddit is such. Though I'm not really asking Mojang to go out of their way to read here. If I was I'd be having a different approach. Reddit for them is just easier not only due to formatting, but also they use it as a secondary media medium apart from Twitter. Such as AMA's.
Okay, I know I'm late to this, but I think I have an idea. (Though it might not work.)
What if the suggestions reddit was designated so that only posts here that are approved enough get up there? What if it became a place where only the bets suggestions were displayed, meaning it would be more worth Jeb's time to look there?

Just a thought.
That subreddit is also a discussion place for suggestions (like this suggestion forum) so if they do this it should be on a separate place instead of taking over the sub. However Reddit already has a "filtering/sorting system" that allows you to find popular posts quickly, instead of here where everything is displayed sorted by the latest reply date.
Another thing that I should note is that if you look on the "Implemented suggestions" page, pretty much all of them are minor things, such as Creepers leaving lingering potion effects, falling particles, dead bushes dropping sticks etc. Game-changing or large suggestions (like many suggestions posted in the Suggestions forum) usually don't get too popular on there, or get added if they do.
I've had some ideas that I've never bothered posting because I know that nobody at Mojang will ever see them; for example, recently I've considered a suggestion to remove the ambient lighting in the Overworld (the dim, or not so dim depending on monitor and in-game settings) light you can see in what should otherwise be total darkness, which makes sense in the Nether and End but not in the Overworld. With the right changes even editing the gamma setting to ridiculous levels will not make total darkness brighter, only light levels 1+).
For an actual example, I posted a suggestion for customization of caves prior to the release of 1.7 (later expanded to include structures) and Mojang never implemented it even though it was one of those things that would literally take 5 minutes to add (speaking as somebody who knows what code changes are actually needed, unlike most people who make suggestions; in fact, customization of most structures is already possible in Superflat worlds, just not Customized) and have little impact on gameplay (unless you have my unique playstyle), and I've seen posts by others on Reddit to add it as well, leading me to think that they do not look at most of the suggestions even there.

It's truly a shame how many good ideas have been left to rot in suggestions. It also serves as a shameful reminder of some of the development practices and relatively out of touch Mojang is/has been. (Considering a single person can out-do the work of a fully funded team...) A bigger issue though more local IMO, is the toxicity. The people who main that subforum flip their excrement over even slight things and feel the need to be unnecessarily disrespectful.
This forum has been on a steady decline downhill for the past couple years. Its been more noticeable in the most recent year and a half that I've been most active. Minecraft as a game seems to not rely on forums anymore and such so these forums are probably not going to be active again for the foreseeable future. Off topic has been the worst part of the decline, mostly. Many good users are no longer around, the golden days are over. To me, theres not really a point to sticking around on this forum, honestly.

Apparently this is what some of my friends think of me here:

I kind of agree with this (although I don't frequent the suggestions forum anymore), people often express their disagreement with an idea with a bold NO SUPPORT and write criticism in a very intimidating manner. The Minecraft Suggestions Reddit also does this, although to a slightly lesser extent.
It seems that the OP is held to a very high standard for making a suggestion, but critics aren't held to the same standard and simply saying "No" is often considered adaquate. People also seem to like to gang up against bad suggestions and repeat criticisms that have already been said many times.
To me, theres not really a point to sticking around on this forum, honestly.
The main reason I still come here is because of the modding/resourcepack community, there doesn't seem to be another community nearly as large as the one on this forum. For many mods (such as Advent of Ascension) this forum is the only discussion place they have.
EDIT: Formatting keeps breaking for weird reasons.
It's a vicious cycle. Sad as it is, I just don't see for MC's community to rise from its current state.
Exactly. I used to play minecraft all the time back in 2014-2015, I remember all the good times I had and I eventually lost interest. From that point on I found it almost impossible to understand the new things and get back into it. Being a roleplayer on these forums is kinda hard to do, as the only friends I have are the ones in the abandoned rp, once thats done me and them are leaving, just like all the others that left before us. Its...kinda sad but with the decline theres nothing we can do.

Yeah, I can see that. I miss the days of the joys installing mods and using forge to do mods and such. It kinda makes me a little sad. Although I have mostly grown up since then.
Well, as for all these recent..updates. I just see them as pointless really, theres not really anyone here from what I've seen that supports the new twitch update. I'm already merged but I'd prefer not to be.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Leaving the forum because of the decline contributes to the decline.
