Well, I do know what they are, but I was wondering: How did they get the rights to be Minecraft official everything? They own this "official" forum, the "official" wiki, and the "official" Minecraft showcases.
To the extent of my own knowledge, they aren't endorsed by Mojang, so who made them "official?"
Minecraft started out as a game made by Notch for fun, this was all the way back in 2009, there weren't any companies involved and it was just a game made by a guy that a few people enjoyed to play. At the time Notch had a forum on his website (mojang.com/forum, now long gone) and it suffered from a lot of spam so he wanted to shut the forum down, and all of the players of Minecraft were using IRC as the defacto community. He wanted to make Minecraft, he didn't want to have to manage a forum too.
I offered to make a forum just for Minecraft, because I liked making websites, so I bought the domain minecraftforum.net and installed some forum software. I was just a 17 year old kid who liked playing Minecraft and the forum belonged to me. At the time Minecraft was still very small so the forum only had a few hundred members in the first few months. The day after I made the forum someone else suggested that we have a wiki, so I registered the minecraftwiki.net domain and installed the software -- and then the community managed the wiki.
From the first day that I created the forum they became the "official" Minecraft Forum, Notch added them to the minecraft.net website and everyone came to the forum. There's never been any formal business agreement, they just are.
Eventually Minecraft got popular. Very, very popular. The games popularity exploded and the forums + wiki popularity exploded too, other people got involved with administrating the forum and wiki (Andrew (aera), Miles (wedtm)) and then in November 2010 a company called Curse reached out to us asking if we'd be interesting in selling the websites to them. We said yes. Curse now owns the forum and the wiki and I work for Curse. They were "official" before Curse owned them.
Sacheverell was hired by Curse. After the site was acquired by Curse they decided that the forum should have a news system, this was around May 2011, initially WedTM was in charge of writing the news (amongst other things) but after a couple of months Curse hired Sacheverell to be responsible for the front page news (and some video).
