I see this quite often in here, the flood of crappy MCreator mods.
For those not familiar with it, MCeator is a graphical program where every damn n00b can make his own (super bugged) mod, without typing a single line of java(or anything else). That isnt bad by nature(except the code beig output being quite poor quality, using deprecated/wrong/bad ways of doing things), rather the lots of n00bs that can use it.
That results in alot of uncreative "super-common-ore->ingot/gem/whatever->super-overpowered-weapon" mods.
That in turn makes it hard to find good mods, mods that do things never seen before (or just doing nice things diffrent then something else).
I'm not saying MCreator mods are bad in general, but that there are lots of crappy ones.
Over on PMC, they have a rule "no content generated by programs"(not the best way to say it, as that would deny autocomplete as well ).
;tl;dr There are lots of crappy MCreator mods
My Proposal: People can report program-generated content they think is crappy, and a moderator then decides if the content is of enough quality to be on MCF(and also look if the content is program-generated(visible by looking at the package names))

Why should we ban one type of mod over others?
yes they maybe lower quality than ones made by others, but they are still someones creation, banning mcreator mods would just be a slap in the face to that person.
They maybe using mcreator to get a basic understanding of how modding works and then from there learning java and how to mod fully by hand, if we turn around and say no mcreator they may never go further which would hurt the community.
Also if we consider banning mcreator mods because as you say they are crappy, why not ban maps that are crappy in your eyes, or crappy skins and resource packs?
The community should be free to make mods and anything using whatever tools they are happy to use, yes we may get some bad ones, but thats how people learn to be better
I would also like to note that this isn't the first time this type of thing came up. The feedback I remember over content packs made via other mods/programs or for use in a specific mod was it was it wasn't popular enough to warrant it's own subforum (as that would basically be a death warrant for all threads made in there due to lack of activity) but most people that provided any feedback wanted the right to be able to post their custom content even if it was created with the help of a program that did the coding for them.
My personal opinion on it is this: We all have things we like and dislike when it comes to content posted to these forums. Should we ban resource packs that use any photoshop filter because they didn't do it by hand? Or what of mods that didn't use MCreator but still add overpowered items from easy to find ore? I don't think we should limit the community on how they create content, and if their content isn't important to you, simply don't post on the thread. If enough of the community agrees with you that it shouldn't be on the front page then it'll eventually die off.

It's hard to follow your dreams when you run from your nightmares. --
This isn't a rant, although it may sometimes appear that way, so please don't read it as one.
1) Crappy is a completely subjective opinion. What you find crappy someone else might find useful.
2) There is no 'flood'. MCreator has been around for a while. Mods from it do pop up, but there are still far more coded mods out there and there is certainly no flood of them.
3) If you ban mods created by programs like MCreator because they should be considered 'crappy' then why stop there? Why not ban coded mods that only add recoloured weapons or armour? Or only add recoloured ores with a new name? There are plenty of coded mods out there that are uncreative and don't really add anything to MC, and they are just as buggy as ones created with a program. Where is the line to be drawn?
Should people who use Techne be banned because they don't code the model?
4) You, yourself admit that not all MCreator mods are bad. But your answer is to ban all of them, depriving the community of the decent ones. Should all resource packs created with GIMP be banned because they aren't created with Photoshop?
5) This forum is not PMC and never should be. Just because they do something doesn't mean this forum has to. You could always get your mods from there and not here. Problem solved.
6) Not everyone has the time or skill to learn programming of any kind, yet they still want to add their personal touches. Programs like MCreator allow them to do this.
7) "That in turn makes it hard to find good mods". This, I think, is one of the main issues here. YOU don't like them because, in your eyes, it makes it harder for you to find others. To be frank that's tough crap. There are plenty of mods in these forums that I don't care for, the same goes for everyone. We all have to go through them, that's just the way it is. Just put up with it, it's not like every other mod is an MCreator mod.
I took a look at your own mod, seeing as you want to be judgmental of others, just the stuff in the first post and the wiki.
There's a couple of bits that seem interesting and creative, I'll give you that, but for me the mod as whole isn't worth getting for myself. Why? You do exactly what you accuse others of doing. You add recoloured ore and armours (probably with different stats). How is that any less 'crappy' than what these other mods do? How is that any more original or creative? It's been done a thousand times before. Now I'm sure you'll say that those ores are needed to create the armour, the sword and the other things, right? Fair enough, to you they have a use, I have no problem with that. But the same thing applies to people that use MCreator. To them what they create is useful. They're not doing it for you or me, they do it for themselves and release it because others might find it useful. Just the same as you do.
It doesn't matter that you coded yours by hand and others didn't. You are all using tools at your disposal. Did you create your own coding program or did you use Eclipse or another piece of software? You are the same as them except they take it a bit further.
What matters in something like this is not how it was made, but the end result.
You might want to take a long, hard look at your own stuff and what you do before you pass judgment on others. You are no different. By your own rules of thinking, you should be banned too.
So no, in absolutely no way should anything be banned unless it breaks one of the rules. Certainly not because of 'quaiity' which could never be accurately ascertained. One persons rubbish is another mans treasure and all that.
^^^ This. 1000x this. I will repost this forever.
Old post, but I've been working with Mcreator for a little while now and every time I head over to google or the forums for tips, tricks, or help, I have to scroll through 10,000 pissy replies from these wannabe script kiddies and self proclaimed l33t pr0gr4mm0r m4st0rz complaining about mcreator being "the bane of all good mods" and "doing all the work for lazy people" and "flooding the forums with crappy mods".
Like you have said, I've seen/used plenty of aesthetically pleasing and game-changing mods generated by Mcreator, as well as some pretty bad ones. Crappy, generic, cookie-cutter mods have been around as long as the forums, so you can hardly blame Mcreator or pylo for that. Mcreator doesn't produce any quality of mod because everything it produces is a direct product of the work put into it by the modder. Then you hear "oh, well you can only mod within the limitations of the program" false Mcreator features a custom code editor (yes I know the code is slightly different and uses its own variables, but if a stranger can berate me to learn Java, why would it be any harder for them to learn to code Mcreator? It is almost identical.)
PMC banning mods for being "program generated" seems to be a thinly veiled rule allowing the moderators to remove any mod that they don't view as "Original enough", and it seems that most of these "Legitimate Coders" are less concerned about the quality of the mcreator mods being produced, and more upset at the fact that somebody has found a way around all the hard work they went through to achieve the same ends.
Maybe, just maybe, we can judge our mods and addons by their contents and not the programs used to make them. Just a thought
I don't think all MCreator mods are bad, sure I've seen some that are very simple and not that creative. But they could help somebody else or they could allow the creator to test and see what they can accomplish, everyone has to start somewhere. I use MCreator, I've posted a small test mod on the Pylo website and it was one of my first tryouts at a mod, its a great program that allows the artistic part of the community that have little/not enough or no knowledge in coding to post their creations which, some that I've seen are absolutely amazing. Some of the mods made without modmaker software and the creator has great coding knowledge make some bad mods too, there loads of mods around, and most are made from scratch.
If you think someone else's mod should be taken off this website, then if you make a mod, it should be fair to have yours taken off too. Don't judge the people until you get to know what the backstory is and why they made that mod. If you want to share your opinion, make sure to be as nice as you possibly can (constructive criticism) and give them ideas to help them get further, not make them feel down for something that could be their first go.
I know that everyone has their own opinion and I acknowledge that for everyone. But have you seen the load of simplistic/non-creative mods on PMC? There are plenty, and PMC's policy doesn't allow mods made with a program. Here you'd see much more mods since they allow mods made with programs (MCreator etc). Not every single person has the time to learn java, some people have huge things to worry about, like school or a job, even supporting their own family, so I think you should try to consider the possibility of those things rather than just rant and not know what the person's actual life is like. Its the people that are so judgmental that are the problem, not the person who made the mod, regardless of how simple or clone it may be.
There is a thing such as a search bar, so can't you just look up what kind of mod you are looking for more specifically.

Sorry to bump this thread but I would like to say something.
1) Just because you use MCreator does not make you are a noob.
2) MCreator is not crappy and is actually very nice. The person who made it was talented.
3) I am a programmer but encase you haven't noticed, there is a difference between Pure Java/Java Swing, and OpenGL Java. OpenGL Java can be hard to learn for a lot of people. MCreator allows people to easily create a mod, and then look at the source code which helps learn more about creating a block, item, key bind, etc.
4) ArjulTheEngineer is right, it could be personal problems/responsibilities that limits the amount of time that the said person has to learn a programming language and create a mod.
5) Code from MCreator does not "Crash every 5 minutes" you must have gotten, if you have ever even tried, a bad MCreator mod. The code from MCreator actually works quit well.
6) MCreator mods shouldn't be banned because of few peoples opinions. There are a lot of people (the majority of the community who mods Minecraft) who would be willing to use an MCreator mod.
7) It's the people, not MCreator which makes crappy, low-quality, non-creative mods.
So to sum it all up, keep MCreator mods because many of them may be good, and banning them would only discourage the people who use it. MCreator is great for beginners in modding, and if you can code in OpenGL Java, good for you, but many feel comfortable with MCreator.
and if you can code in OpenGL Java, good for you, but many feel comfortable with MCreator.
What is "OpenGL Java"? You mean writing the Java code that calls OpenGL to render a block, item, or mob? You don't even need to touch that stuff unless you want to add something that uses its own rendering, as opposed to simply, say, a full cube block or one of the other built-in basic shapes (not sure how this works with block models in 1.8+. If necessary you should be able to just copy and rename an existing block's model file). Everything else is just Java code; over 99.9% of all the code for my mod TMCW, which has over 100 classes, has nothing to do with OpenGL, except where I changed the item frame rendering to render maps similarly to 1.7 and later (the mod is for 1.6.4), and I looked at the 1.7 code to see what they changed. The new blocks I added use the same rendering as existing vanilla blocks, with a couple more tweaks to the renderers for armor on mobs (to add a new type of armor) and Ender chests (the same renderer is used for two types of blocks which have non-overlapping metadata) but those did not involve directly editing OpenGL code.
As for MCreator, I once used it myself back in 1.6.2 but found that you could not repair items in the anvil so I ended up hacking somebody else's mod and using MCreator to add a new block which dropped an item ID from the other mod (one advantage of numerical IDs (pre-1.8) is that you can simply put a number in for the drop ID instead of Item.itemID/Block.blockID or just Item/Block and no compile error will occur; when tested by itself it dropped nothing instead of crashing). Later on I found out how to add my own weapons/armor and ores by directly editing base classes (none of my self-coded mods have ever used Forge, which I also stopped using since it frowns upon editing base code and this allowed me to make much more complex mods without having to learn how to use Forge).
Why should we ban one type of mod over others?
yes they maybe lower quality than ones made by others, but they are still someones creation, banning mcreator mods would just be a slap in the face to that person.

But its a rule that you can only upload your own coded mods. Any mods made with MCreator are techetally made by Pylo (The creator of MCreator).
This is a stupid idea! If there crappy mods why not just ignore them? What is the point of reporting it and getting rid of the mod? I use mcreator but also code myself, yes mcreator is super buggy but it good for making models as such. I'm not good at coding by myself but it still takes super long and there is so much to download. My point is don't go criticizing people about their mods, i would like to see if you can create mods?

I think you're missing the point. I don't think banning these mods is a good idea, but the point is that MCreator mods are always very simple and more likely than not something a lot of people don't want. Now, maybe I'm wrong but that's just my opinion. (Genuinly curious) can anyone name a really popular mcreator mod?
I use MCreator but I don't make simple overly common mods like overpowered weapons with it.
I usually come up with creative ideas, like a Glitch Pokemon dimension and glitch Pokemon mobs. The only reason I use MCreator is because programming intimidates me and I don't like how whenever I fix an error, 100 more are created. Plus, I like working with a GUI.
EDIT: I just looked at the date of this post and noticed it's old, can someone delete this comment or lock this? I'm sorry for bumping this.
Yeah, MCreator is a simple thing, and it DOES offer a lot of possibilities for really low quality mods, but it also allows people who have creative ideas, but who don't like or want to learn how to program, to make mods in an easy way. That's why I like it. I think that personally, if the mod has a creative idea, it should be allowed, but if it just adds, say, a single overpowered weapon, then it wouldn't be allowed.
I can see where you are coming from but, no they should not be banned as some people thoroughly enjoy them but it's certainly annoying to have so many of the same thing

MCreator does allow you to look at and edit the java source code of your mod, so when you think about it, you COULD make the best mod of the month, however, it seems that most people don't use that feature.
