In a world that is not our own there lies a planet, very earth-like, yet very different. The civilization of this enchanted land ("Saffice") is based more on animal training than conventional technology. Children are raised along with young animals. Teens are taught in their schools the art of choosing and raising a pet. Though many animals are born and raised to tame parents in the villages each person ceremoniously obtains their "heart pet" from the wild. Most young petmaster-to-be's steal an egg or hatchling but the bravest face maturing animals and attempt to break them of their wild nature. The new pets become family, treated with honour and serving their masters gratefully.
Each petmaster has one primary pet that they always travel with. Some have two or three. But many people have a number of "auxiliary" animals for simple purposes, such as growing wool or harvesting fruit from tall trees.
Saffice is also a planet of magic. Every person has a certain limited magical ability that develops with age. It is believed that all animals possess some magic as well, though most do not demonstrate such. Occasionally, minerals, stones, gems, and other objects with magical powers are discovered. Find one to see what it does. Go, Petmaster. It is time. Find your pet.
This is a rather open roleplay based on exploration and discovery. Players are encouraged to be of the human-like species (known as the Saffine) that dominate the planet. But players can choose to be animals, but then they cannot speak and cannot have pets. An animal player may be the pet of a human player.
A lot of this role play depends on you, the player. It is very loose. Players post what they do, and I post what really happens. There is no regular time to post or amount of posts that must arrive before I can update. There may or may not be numerical stats and dice rolls.
I will begin with my own player, Keoln. If you wish to join, send me a PM, introducing yourself to the story somehow and giving character details. Feel free to provide (or request) a bit of backstory. It is preferable for you to start without a pet, but you may start with a pet if you wish.
Some Possible Starting Locations:
The Village of Sam - A peaceful farming community. Also the center of storytelling and past knowledge.
The Village of Kroak - A swamp community focused on raising animals for transporation and protection purposes.
The Village of Drodrum - The exploration center, a community with primary focus on discovering new species, minerals, ore, etc.
The Wilds of Ard, a region full of smaller swamps, forests, and meadows, uncivilized, home mostly to wild animals.
The swamps around Kroak.
The wide open plains, simply known as "The Open".
The great mountains, some of which reach above the clouds.
The sea-side. (Beaches, cliffs, coves, etc.)
Underwater!
The Sandy Sea, a relatively peaceful section of water with reefs and sea-caves.
Halmite, the Dark Ocean. A place rumored to be the end of all who enter. The very atmosphere is thick with terror.
A random location.
Each Saffine has a "mark", which basically tells their trade. Their clothes are the color of their mark. Just to be clear, the Violet mark, for example, does not mean you have extra magical ability (though you might), it just means you, by trade, are more an expert (or apprentice) in learning about magic procuring, controlling, identification, etc.
Marks:
Red - Lore (Stories, treasures, rumored beasts...)
Yellow - Illumination (Light is important. Saffice has 8 hours of light to 24 hours of dark.)
Green - Travel (Great knowledge of the world and its many interesting locations as well as how to get there.)
Aqua - Underwater (How to explore underwater as well as what lies down there.)
Violet - Magic (Know all about different types of magic and magical objects/creatures.)
Brown - Farming (Food is important.)
Black - Hunting (Food is important.)
White - Flight (saffine flight specifically, via riding animals or via magic)
Rules:
This is a somewhat serious roleplay. I mean, you can be funny, but don't play if you don't want to be a real part of the story.
Be reasonable.
If you wish to join, send me a PM. Do not post reservation posts to this topic.
No bumping!
You may post questions and your character's turns to this topic.
Mark anything out of character with ((double parentheses)).
DO NOT POST THINGS ON THIS TOPIC THAT ADD NOTHING TO THE TOPIC.
You may choose to be "evil", but don't expect your evil plans to work.
You may subtly suggest things but I am the GM and what I say goes.
If you don't like something or have a non-public question, please send me a PM.
No profanity or obscenity. Period.
Nothing overly digusting. Blood may be spilled, but don't get crazy about it.
Etc...
Additional Information
The planet has two "suns", the Star of the Morning and the Star of the Night, that cause an interesting day/night cycle. For 12 hours, the planet is lit by the bright golden light of the Star of the Morning. 12 hours of darkness follow, then 12 hours of dim blue light from the Star of the Night, then 12 more hours of darkness. Occasional (but not rare) eclipses or unusual atmospheric conditions can cause extended periods of darkness. Because of the low light to dark ratio, illumination is very important and even has its own mark, Yellow.
People are usually active during the day period and night period, and sleep some time during the periods of darkness, known as "dark" or "the darkness".
Rain is incredibly rare but the Star of the Night is accompanied by settling mists that keep the planet well watered.

In the Village of Sam Keoln awakens in his home in the village of Sam. The kinfowl are clucking outside his open wood-frame window. The room is pleasantly tinted orange-yellow by beams of light from the Star of the Morning, mostly coming in the doorway. In this farming village care is taken to manage odors so the scent of breakfast fills the air, unstained. A familiar face enters the doorway. "Sleeping late again?" Keoln's mother asks. With a smile, she adds "You will be in a house of your own soon. I am afraid with nobody to wake you, you will sleep straight through the week!" The scent in the air now registers in Keoln's mind. Eggs, well seasoned, and fried Jadefish wrapped in Grew, a green leafy plant.
- Yes, the OP suggests you may start with a creature.
- I'm not sure what you mean by "bio" or "app" but the second post provides the present player "bios".
- No map. At least, not yet.
- The purpose is to role play. Objectives will arise, but they will be determined by what you, the players, do. I would not call it a "social" RP. I intend to feed in small objectives and eventually large objectives. You partly determine how much you associate with other players and NPCs.
Aaerin wakes up and yawns, sitting up. He walked to the kitchen and cooked himself some breakfast. He wondered if today was the day he was going to find a pet.
"Urk! must be time to get up," Kai said with a yawn. Kai jumped out of bed, Disrupting his pet Scratch and making him fall out of bed. "Sorry pal, it's time for breakfast!" Kai and Scratch ran downstairs and opened the pantry. "How bout apple pie?" Kai asked Scratch. Scratch rolled around on his stomach as a response. "I'll take that as a yes!" Dax said as he took it out of the pantry.

In the Village of Sam Without hesitation, Keoln sees to devouring his breakfast. Then he steps outside and takes in the fresh morning air. To the left a path leads into town. Directly ahead is the pen of wooly goats that he regularly shears. And to the right, just outside his bedroom window, are the kinfowl who are doubtless hungry.
On the other side of the village, the blue-haired Kai awakens with a yawn. “Urk! It must be time to get up.” He jumps out of bed, knocking his surprised pet tiger, scratch, to the floor. “Sorry pal.” The two go downstairs for breakfast, where Kai takes some apple pie out of the pantry. Scratch, who apparently likes apple pie, rolls around on his stomach while licking his lips and purring. But before their appetites are seen to there is a loud knock on the door.
In the Wilds of Ard Aaerin awakens in his home, a small shack in the wild. Two years ago he build the one-room house, a wooden box with small firepit in the center for cooking. For two years now he has lived as a solitary hunter, alone in the wild. Most of the other hunters are strong and can conquer moderate beasts in a physical battle. Aaerin, fast and intelligent, has always been quite capable of escaping any attack. And with his ability to cast illusions and his knowledge of traps many minor creatures have easily come into his hand. But the greater ones are just too strong for him. He has proved his ability to provide for himself and live alone. But now it is time to take a step further. It is time to become a petmaster.
Aaerin begins cooking some Hak egg while thinking about what sort of pet he should take, and how to take it. A good strong animal would greatly compliment his weakness. A flying animal would give him a new domain to attack from. A sea animal could allow him to travel far on the water. And who knows what he would get from one of the more mysterious elusive creatures, such as the Lhlon, a swift, dark reptile that keeps to the shadows.
Aaerin demolishes his breakfast one bite at a time. The eggs were whitish yellow and he made them scrambled. Once he finished his eggs he washed his plate in a nearby stream while still thinking about what kind of animal he should get. He wasn't sure what he wanted at the moment.
Back to the Village of Sam
Responding to the knocking, Kai sets down his pie and opens the door. Only, it doesn’t open. It seems that the door is severely rusted. Again. Whoever the stranger is, they will have to be kept waiting until Kai can find a way to open the door (or another way out).
The Wilds of Ard
Aaerin tackles breakfast with a passion. He demolishes it, but only one bite at a time. To demolish breakfast one bite at a time is a very exhausting task. But Aaerin is naturally quick so it does not exhaust him. Hopefully he can taste breakfast fast too.
At any rate, now that he has just finished (and just started) eating his whitish yellow scrambled egg he ventures to the nearby stream (literally, two steps from his door) and washes the plate. Thinking some more about what sort of pet he might want he considers again that his greatest weakness is strength. So it may be best to have either a pet that is strong physically, powerful magically, or is otherwise good at getting its master out of a tight situation. Also, Aaerin is a hunter. Leave the sissy happy flying birds and giggly farm beasts to the other marks. Aaerin needs something... dangerous.
Normally I take my time with chores, enjoying the gently warming rays from the Star of the Morning. But today I have my mind set on other things so I speed through feeding all the animals and shearing the wooly goats.
((Minecraftforum is automatically combining my posts. D: ))
(( yeah, that happens to me too ): ))
"Arg!! why won't this thing open." Kai says with a grunt. "Hey Scratch, can you help?" Scratch comes over and helps Kai try to knock the door open
