Rotten Meat was just talked about by Notch, confirming the following:
- Rotten Meat causes POISON (helps confirm blue spider existence), and restores food. Aka, lose health, gain food, desperation.
This may soon lead to it giving (or being part) way to a recipe in the future to craft poison, I'd guess.
(Note, this is speculation at the moment, about being a poisonable item ingredient in the future).
It seems kind of interesting though. As at high hunger bar, you regen health. So this may be a viable item to use OUTSIDE of combat, or where you are not risking death.
I don't think it'll be permanent.
More like a few seconds of poisoning, because otherwise, you'd have to find extremely rare mushrooms (as per your suggestion) before dieing.
No mushrooms. Very likely it just eats 5-8 hearts over time, before vanishing. Making you have to find rare items, and lug them around when mobs inflict this (meaning constantly) would be just burdensome and messy.
so you eat rotten zombie flesh to satiate hunger but it poisons you and you lose health? Doesn't sound like a good plan. Most mammals vomit when they eat poisonous food so it doesn't make much sense as to something that should reduce hunger.
I hope damage caused by poisoning doesn't effect armor durability.
So you can eat this and get poisoned? As expected, but unexpected at the same time. Poisoned cake, bread, and stew? Make sure to carry shrooms with you
*ponders about crafting recipes that would require flesh to be inserted into food to kill/grief players.*
Sounds kinda cruel... but the problem with a rabid dog is it'll soon bite you and then, well... zombie Steve is on the way.
In multiplayer they could be deadly. Find a wolf, feed it rotten flesh, it becomes aggressive (not to the owner) and will attack other players poisoning them. If you wanted to build a security system in your house, this would add mobs that were friendly to the owner but deadly to any trespassers.

Just added it. Also, wanna fix your sig from breaking the screen? Growing rather annoying.
Cool! I wonder what the antidote will be...

His signature isn't breaking my screen?
Causing my screen (and others) to stretch out and break the post. Already reported it.
On topic, I doubt this is the 'final use' of Rotten Meat, doesn't make 100% sense. Let's keep our eyes and ears open for more info...

Not even a scrap of info hinting at this, so EXTREMELY unlikely.
Sorry it was a rhetorical question. More along the lines of thinking it would be fun. Sorry for the confusion.
