So i was trying to make a wool farm (I'm in 1.19) and when the sheep eat the grass the grass block does not change to dirt so the observer has nothing to observe. Has there been a change or is there something I am doing wrong? I looked on you tube and there are 19.1 wool farm tuts so is it just me?
OMG thank you so much yes mob briefing is turned off. Wow after all this time I had no idea. I've been asking about this since just after Microsoft bought Minecraft thought something they did broke it. So is there a way to stop creepers from blowing stuff up but still be able to blow up the player???

Nope, mob griefing affects creepers and sheep at the same time. Your best bet is to use a flint and steel to force creepers to explode where you want them to, as you are auto farming and thus need the command off 24/7.
Disabling mob griefing does not stop creepers from exploding (attacking a target that is, not via flint and steel) or dealing damage to entities, which is distinct from destroying blocks; this is also why sheep aren't eating grass, but can still regrow wool as long as they have grass to "eat", a feature added in 1.14 (prior to 1.8 they always ate grass, turning it into dirt; in 1.8 they completely disabled this but later on allowed them to eat without changing it so they can regrow wool, likewise, other mobs may still have some normal behaviors as long as it doesn't affect blocks, or pick up items without player interaction, etc):
Whether creepers, zombies, endermen, ghasts, withers, ender dragons, rabbits, sheep, villagers, silverfish, snow golems, and end crystals should be able to change blocks, and whether mobs can pick up items. When mobGriefing is disabled, piglins will not pick up gold ingots, but a player can still barter with them by using the item on the mob. Similarly, villagers will not pick up food items but can still breed until they run out of any food already in their inventory. This also affects the capability of zombie-like creatures like zombified piglins and drowned to pathfind to turtle eggs.
(all of these are entities, thus even in 1.19 mob griefing only determines whether explosions destroy blocks; the only way to make a creeper deal no damage is to use commands to set their explosion radius to 0)

Mobgriefing seems to be off. It might be a buggy behaviour if they can still regain wool.

MC-1673 Creepers, withers, ghasts, skeletons, strays, snow golems and shulkers pop off paintings, item frames and leads and destroy armor stands and anything in item form even when mobGriefing is turned off

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
