I still remember watching the Yogscast back in like 2011 and 2012. They're one of the reasons why I got the game in the first place. I also remember watching this video and having my mind blown as a kid!
Actually, I have been trolling the Steam Workshop for fan-made Portal 2 levels. And came across a series of "Minecraft" levels by Timoteeei. Had a lot of fun with those, and kinda decided I want to try Minecraft itself...
I think I came across it by either Family (coming across it on Youtube/the 360 version being announced maybe I think) or School Friends (having 1.2.5 Java Edition that people pass around you know) (then watching CaptainSparklez first survival series for a bit and a few adventure maps) and got into the Java version properly at around 1.4.5, then watched let's plays from Yogscast, Direwolf20, Antvenom and I've not stopped playing or exploring the snapshots, modding, map making and modpack making sides of the game/communities since.
But these days I make my own mod/datapack spotlight content for any modloader (1.6.4 to 1.16 commonly but some a bit earlier like 1.4.7), update wikis related to 1.13+ Rift/Fabric & Forge mods and make modpacks or check out the snapshots ingame/watching videos on them, not too into Let's Plays/adventure maps anymore (playing/building) like I used to.

I found it by my cousin. In October 2012 he told me about it and I thought it was super cool. I decided to buy the game for Java the next day, and I've played it ever since.

Friend told me about this youtube channel "the yogscast" or "bluexephos" as it was back then. They had only released a few episodes of their shadow of israphel series and after watching some, i instantly wanted the game.
I cant even remember! I played back in Alpha and must have a friend show me it. Not sure, only just getting back into it and had to re-buy as my old account cannot be accessed as it wasn't transferred over when Mojang accounts became a thing.
Edit:
Second thought might have seen on youtube... Coestar was a big influence to me in the early days.
A thread sprung up on the forum of a browser game I used to play. My group of online friends already knew about it. When they found out just how many of them liked it they immediately became Minecraft evangelists and went around telling the rest of us how great it was.
That's how I ended up playing it for the first time and well... I hated it so much that I started going on rants about how slow and boring it was.
Luckily the people in my group were much older than me, and knew better than to argue with the ramblings of a child. I think if they'd done so I'd have grown to resent the game and missed out on one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.
Anyway I had no interest in Minecraft until this video hit YouTube's front page:
The idea of starting out in a deserted island with few resources was very alluring to me. I quickly became enamored with the series, and the game.
My grandson who was 6 or 7 at the time played Minecraft at home and wanted to play with me at my house, so I got it. He used to watch Minecraft YouTube videos all the time too. His favorite channel was popularmmos.
My daughter, who was at Ohio State University at the time, got me hooked on the game in about November of 2011.
I purchased an account and started playing on Beta 1.8.
I now have over 900 saved worlds on all Releases thru 1.15.2 and Snapshot 20w20.

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
I remember watching the Survival Island series and when I saw that airship at the end along with Lysander and Peculier, I immediately wanted the game. Back then I thought it was all part of the game. I had no idea it was scripted or anything.
Unfortunately I only discovered it in January of this year. My son wanted to start a YouTube channel so I agreed to help and oversee him/it. Next thing I knew I was playing with him and fell in love with the game. PLUS its giving lots of extra bonding time with me and both my kids now. Its awesome
I found it through Youtube specifically through STAMSITE's videos back in 2010/2011. He had a series called ''My life in Minecraft''. For all the non-swedes STAMSITE is a very well-known Swedish youtuber when it comes to Minecraft.
Waaaaay back in 2010, right around the time I graduated high school (I'M OLD WHAT HAPPENED), I was at my uncle's house with my family and he showed us this game where he'd built a railroad leading up to a castle in a lake, and I was all like, I need this in my life right now. I went home and bought it, played it, loved it, and one by one converted and taught the rest of my immediate family how to play. Good times

That's a fun one to remember, the first ever Minecraft video I saw I can only remember one thing vividly. The Let's Player was standing atop a mountain where he was building his base, the sun was rising and he was talking about how mobs burn to death in the sunlight. This was Summer 2010? I think. It's a little hard to remember because I was either six or about to turn six. That video stuck in my head till this day and I still sadly can't find it.

The Haunting because Slenderman stuff is fun and Herobrine is like Slenderminer which is even epicker.

That's right! The channel was called bluexephos back then and they had the Jaffa factory logo as the channel logo.

Some dude a couple years above me played it on the school computers, I thought it looked amazing.
I found minecraft mostly by my friends but also with these famous vids from 2013 that were around at the time like I FOUND HEROBRINE IN MINECRAFT PE
