So I searched and don't see an answer here so I hope someone might be able to help. I would like to play this with my grandson on a couple of laptops I own, one Win 7 and one Win 10, but he's a little young to have an email account, etc. I realize I will need two licenses, one for me and one for him so that we can play on a lan connected server. Can I purchase two licenses with my account and log in twice? I really don't want to go down the rabbit hole of setting him up an email, putting in a cc on his account, etc. Is there anything like a guest on your account if you have the proper licensing purchased?
I don't believe there is anything like that. There is split screen on console however (info here). In order for him to play with you on java version though, he will need his own account (and email). You could use any old emails you have access to to set up his minecraft account though to avoid setting up a new one (the email can be changed later at mojang's website. Here is the link).
Also, windows 10 edition does not seem to have split screen capability, despite how convenient it would be here.
Thanks to both of you for clearing this up. I wasn't aware of the incompatibility between Java version and Win10. So it looks like two licenses for Java edition it is, and good idea, I will use an older email that I still have access to so I can set up the other account. Appreciate the quick and thorough responses.
That too is very interesting. I had heard about that but wasn't completely clear on what all would be connecting together. Buying two copies of the Java Edition right now should get me the two Win10 copies free, which means he could play on one account with that while I am on my Switch, or on my phone. He's pretty young as I mentioned so I doubt we will need the full set of features for some time. But picking up a couple of the Java edition licenses will ensure that we can move up if needed. Again thanks for all of the help. Nice to have a concise answer instead of 5 firefox tabs opened and sifting through various info.
