I've been playing minecraft ever since beta 2.4 came out. I love it and played it non-stop. About 2 years later(now) its gotten extremely boring. I can still play it, but its just not as amazing and fun as it used to be. I dont know if its because they are finished, or if its because i played the crap out of it. Mods dont really interest me because i just dont think they make the game anymore fun. Mojang should start updating more often and adding things in. Or just make another amazing successful game such as minecraft. If anyone feels the same let me know because i dont know if its just me.
I agree, but manly i think it got boring because it got complicated. fast. but thats also a good thing it keeps you intrigue, but for me i cant keep up with it. i have been with it since 1.4 beta so im i like to think im a veteran. but i am looking forward for horses!
That would also be why we are seeing more RPG type elements introduced to the game which many "block purists" (blockists?) don't seem to like but that I think are good news for long term playability. I mean no one is making you use the new features If you don't want to, but to those that do and to the modding and custom map community they are a breath of fresh air.
The game has a lot more to offer now than just building with blocks (which everybody needs a break from sometimes) with even more yet to come, personally I am happy with the direction they seem to be heading in.
Horses haven't been released yet. I'll leave it to someone else to explain what a snapshot is.
Back to the OT. I've been playing since beta 1.4 and minecraft is not the same as it use to be, it's much better. I still remember looking out to the ocean (or rather a large river as oceans didn't actually exist back then) and dreaming of the things to come, that there would be something to actually do aside from building, and now that there is, I couldn't be happier with minecraft.
I remember when I had done everything short of all the possibilities of redstone. Now days there are still many features I haven't yet touched and I'm glad to know that there are things in the game that will be new to me when I get around to doing them. I can't keep up with all the updates and it's a good thing.
I have been playing this game since Infdev. And finally horses are killing Minecraft for me. They have NO purpose whatsoever. We already have pigs. And i tested horses, they are broken. I can't even saddle them or anything. Armour doesn't work neither. If 1.6 will bring anything new/crappy to Minecraft i will never update. Only way this update could be saved is with new dimension or something. What HAS a purpose.
Your playing with horses in the very first (beta) snapshot for 1.6, nothing in that snapshot has been completed or fully implemented, horses don't spawn yet either, so what, they aren't supposed to yet! This is so we can test things and report the bugs back to Mojang, the real bugs, not the things that they know don't work yet. I cannot believe how many people are complaining that everything doesn't work perfectly already in the very first testing snapshot released. Don't you understand the difference between a update release and a snapshot (beta) release?
The PVP and multi-player server people are salivating over horses with armor, you may not see a point to them but they sure do, and since those people now make up the majority of online players it only makes sense for Mojang to give them what they want.
But horses will not be a good thing. Minecraft pvp is now little bit broken. Minecraft is about imagination and creativity. And pigs and riding them is a good example. Horses with armour and saddles are way too RPG kind of a feature and not that creative.
Horses are also the most requested new feature by the largest number of people who play this game, people have been asking for horses for a long time, a lot of people. If you run a business and you do not give your customers what they ask for then you go out of business, Mojang wants to stay in business.

Why should *everything* in Minecraft be creative or imaginative? The game itself has no obligations to, it is merely a platform that gives the player tools to express his/her imagination and creativity. Horses are no less creative than pigs are, these are both pre-existing animals who have made frequent appearances in all kinds of media for decades. The game also already has a lot of RPG elements; enchanting which is somewhat comparable to player stat upgrades, an open, explorable world with tons of implicit "side-quests"...
There is only so far you can take creativity and imagination before the argument becomes comically ridiculous. Does the existence of sand in Minecraft degrade its creativity?
For the record I started playing in version 1.4.6 (at the start of January this year). I absolutely love how overwhelmingly feature-rich the game is. It was a little time-consuming to get a grasp of the basics and the intermediate stuff but now that I have I just can not stop playing. I have never played a game before that keeps me hooked for 3.5 months straight.
But I can understand how long time players feel. They played the game when it was in a certain state, it is the state they were first introduced to and fell in love with. It wouldn't surprise me if in the future I will be a grumpy old timer by the time Minecraft 1.12 is released, looking back to my precious 1.4.7/1.5.1 days with glasses enchanted with Nostalgia IV.

Admittedly I didn't start playing when minecraft was released, as I said in my previous post i'm from beta 1.4. But I still think i've been playing long enough that there is some merit in saying not all players feel this way. The only addition to the game that i've actually disliked is snow golems because I think they're silly (in a bad way) and useless but they've never bothered me. ALL the other updates i've found as a pleasant addition or change to the game, even the imperfect terrain is an improvement in my eyes.
What I'm saying is that not all long time players feel annoyed by the updates, and personally I find them exciting and interesting. Even the things I don't use such as daylight sensors and hoppers I still think are good additions to the game. It's also worth keeping in mind that there are probably many players from alpha and beta who have no problem with the direction the game is taking that just don't post about it.
It's the ones with an agenda who usually are the most vocal. Hell, I was one of the players that wanted pigs to be rideable instead of introducing horses, now we're gonna have both and I think that too is awesome, and no doubt i will saddle up a horse some time and and still be glad i can ride a pig instead if I want to.
So no, not all 'original players' dislike the changes. I'm just thankfull mojang didn't add a generic rpg style of leveling and instead introduced the more original enchantment system, which i think is a small stroke of genius.
Well I meant to say that I can understand how long time players feel who do dislike the direction the game has taken since beta or alpha, of course there are two sides on every coin.
I don't want Minecraft to turn into a RPG... however, I'm not really sure we should change it much now, really just add the Mod API and leave it. The Mod API would just allow anyone to do... nearly anything with it, and if it was released Mojang said they'd just make mods/plugins for the Mod API, instead of releasing them as updates. I just think at this point Mojang should start focusing more on other games, like 0x10c and Cobalt.

Ok, firstly, I think you mean beta 1.4 (there never was a 2.4).
Secondly, have you tried a mod to bring back beta terrain. One of those revitalised Minecraft for me.
Quite obviously, you're are suffering from nostalgia. You don't really feel like the game was better back then, or that they haven't added enough, you just miss the feel of the game being new to you. Nothing feels new to the game to you anymore because you've played it enough to know the drill.
i feel the same way and it's not nostalgia since i never felt like backdating , it's just that those days i can answer any question i have about minecraft so everything is so expected when they happen . and that's what makes it so boring

Your a complete imbecel. Horses are not broken you just dont know how to tame them...
Pigs are completely pointless now and have been for some time. if i wanted fast movement i would make a Speed potion. Horses for me add a whole new level of gameplay. If Daggers/Knives were added in 1.6 i could finally be a Ranger from Ranger's Apprentice.
And as a side note you dont have to update. If you think that horses are stupid either 1. Dont update or 2. Dont Use them. Its a simple concept. I for one think your an imbecel who should be laughed at.
For me, weekly updates are the ones the keeps me from playing Minecraft. There are alot of things non-boring you can do in minecraft! Socializing/Making friends in servers, minigames, and other stuff you can do server/offline!
The game has a lot more to offer now than just building with blocks (which everybody needs a break from sometimes) with even more yet to come, personally I am happy with the direction they seem to be heading in.

Yeah. You can choose to build stuff out of dirt...Or stone...Or wood...The choices are mind-boggling!
