Now, let's try to get that "added by popular demand" status (points at the poll).
That would completely kill the primary thing I use them for, and kill off many of the creative contraptions people built with them. I've already posted that I knew they would do something like this, give us some watered down near useless version of the mod. If thats what they put in game, I'd just stick with the modded Pistons (as I'd hope he'd keep updating them since the "official" ones would suck).
Definitely need the jumpiness. That adds a whole new mechanic to building things.
Also, in my opinion, if they make players jump high, they should also cushion fall damage when you land on them.

There is no way Notch would ever approve anything as over-powered as mod pistons are. It was 100% sure from the very beginning that official pistons will be a lot less powerfull. Expecting or even hoping anything else is sure way to wonder land of dissapointment.
For something to be overpowered it must first overpower something. So what exactly do physics enabled pistons do detrimentally and what exactly does that overpower?
Anyone who would call pistons "near useless" because this one facet of their functionality - something I didn't even know about for a while when I first heard about them being added - is only saying so because that's all they use the pistons for. That's an incredibly selfish and narrow-minded approach to the issue.
While I love the idea of finally having a launcher block, I have to agree with jeb_; pistons aren't it. It just... doesn't really make much sense, on a logical standpoint. I mean, pistons really should only have one function; to move blocks. That's it.
In the future, I could imagine an elevator-functioning block; but pistons aren't that block.

Yeah, I agree with jeb_ partially, because long pistons would be able to replace launchers easily.
I'm personally more interested in seeing what can be done by moving blocks around; particularly in regards to redstone circuits, water/lava flow control, wall building, and whatnot. In fact, I think the only thing I didn't use pistons for when I had the mod installed was the launching.
I dont think they should jump players and mobs very high(maybe just 2 blocks up) however, jumping sand is basically what lets pistons make things like lava disappearing bridges and hidden staircases. Also, they gotta find some other way of fast transporting up, ladders and stairs are unfitting for many things, and now boat elevators were removed.

How? Seriously, how is that related to griefing?
Any additional functionality that isn't part of vanilla pistons can still be handled by mods so I don't see why this is even an issue.
This is something that should be in vanilla. Why have mobs? They can be handled by mods!

I support pistons launching entities, including sand, gravel, mobs, and TNT.
Support. I was incredibly disappointed when I heard that jumpy pistons were being removed.Edit: On second thought, I agree with Jeb's reasoning.
