I have been playing minecraft abut 3 to 4 months and i Love it. I plan on buying it with my next paycheck in about 2 weeks. Anyway I have played around with java and one thing I noticed online is that Java is slow which is understandable. It is translated into byte code and then run. its a form of emulation. I have been reading the topics and the things that people want notch to add are very cool but Im afriad that if you add to much Minecraft will get ungodly slow. Lately Minecraft has been working great it seems fast as ever on my pc. But if notch adds a lot of the stuff people are asking for its going to get really bogged down. When that happens Minecraft will require a complete rewrite in a different language. I just wanted to get your opinion on this.
Notch works with Java for his job also, that must mean something. I'm not experienced with Java but I'm sure Notch considered whether or not it was suitable...
i really hope that if he decides to stick with java, that he'll make an improved standalone client. if he doesn't, i just hope it doesn't take him lightyears to rewrite it (if that's even possible for him).
Not if it's programmed correctly, which Notch is a decent programmer, but he lacks convention and generics knowledge unfortunately, but that doesn't slow things down to the JVM.
Yeah i remember playing one of your popular games. It was generics knowledge-tastic!

I think people underestimate the power of Java.
I love pointers far too much to love Java.
I want to traipse around main memory.
voice chat would be the most amazing thing evarrrr. when we do get a client, i really hope this will be implemented.
