So I have been playing minecraft for a week now and I have made my first attempt at an underground animal farm. It has been a few minecraft days now and nothing has spawned :sad.gif: I think it might be because it is too small but I want your opinions.
First thing I would do is make the farm area bigger, it looks too small for anything to spawn.
Didn't I see something in the patch notes that said animals don't spawn in just torches at night any more? This would apply underground, too I would think.
was there a spawner?
i didnt see one. i dont think it works like that anymore. you need a spawner. if you do have a spawner. then sorry i dont know why
This is more of a pain, but you could dig all the way to ground level and put glass at ground level to let in light during the day. You don't need another layer of glass at the bottom.
Notch made it so animals don't spawn near torchlight anymore. I don't know if they even spawn at night now.
EDIT: I have an epic title now!
That corresponds to what I've seen. For that matter... I'm not seeing things spawn nearly as often as they did before even when under normal circumstances. I sat outside during a whole night and only saw two monsters spawn, then sat all through a day and saw one animal spawn.
That, combined with 1.6 breaking both my mob elevators and water traps... I kind of think Notch is out to remove automatic mob farming.
Can you collect lava in a bucket? If so I will try to get some lava and try to spawn some animals using lava light. I will keep you posted.
Shouldn't matter. The source of light is irrelevant. All that matters is the brightness, and while lava (15) is brighter than torches (14), that small difference doesn't matter for animal spawning. They only need 9.

That was changed in 1.6 ... animals spawn anywhere there is grass now, regardless of light.
